Title: Nova v. LVille
Post by: Wareagle on January 11, 2010, 08:28:24 PM
Anyone watching?  Would be a big win for Nova.  It also seems like the refs are being paid per whistle.  Over 60 fouls in the game with 4 minutes to go.

Gotta love it when the refs blow the whistle that often.  Without looking, I'd bet my ranch on either Hightower or Higgins in that crew.

Edited: title of thread edited to reflect correct 'Nova opponent.

I guess we should root for Nova in most games for Strength of Schedule purposes.  If you are gonna lose to a team twice, it might as well be a top 5 team.  Plus, we can still finish ahead of Louisville.  Good win for nova.

Dont need to worry about the Big East opponents...we need to root for Xavier and Michigan.

Didn't see most of the game, but are some of these numbers correct...Scottie Reynolds 36 pts, 9 out of 10 fg, and 0 assists? Combined 17 assists, 43 turnovers, 66 fouls, and 93 FTA? Guess I'm glad I didn't see it....sounds awful.

Yes, I can attest to that madness.  Scottie Reynolds was the only thing worth tuning in for.

Fun game to watch...not pretty, but I enjoyed it.  Ville started out hot, Jay Wright just about got tossed halfway through the first half, Reynolds was amazing and it made me feel even better about MU.

I liked the start of the game, but if I remember the the refs put the clamps down in the middle of the 1st half and the game slowed to a crawl.  The OU-OSU game that was supposed to *immediately* follow only had 6 minutes left in the 1st half when ESPN could switch.

Ugly game to watch IMO. Just glad Nova pulled it off. Scottie was amazing, could have had 40 if he shot a bit better from the stripe. His threes were clutch.

At least I got to listen to Raftery and Bilas. Those guys are a riot.

I hope we don't get too many happy whistles this year.  Do the math - 30 fouls with a 6 1/2 man rotation sounds pretty disastrous.

13-13 from the line was impressive.

When Lville made their run in the first half, their press embarrassed Nova - they couldn't even get it across half court three consecutive times. If Nova's guards had some initial trouble with it, it doesn't look great for our guards.

But halfway through the 2nd half Nova pressed Louisville and caused several turnovers in a row in which Pitino had to call 2 timeouts in a matter or 3 or 4 minutes. Reynolds made some clutch shots, and that King guy Nova has is turning out to be a big player for them.

King is next in line for my "player I dislike the most" designation, as soon as Harangody leaves.  The fact that he originally went to Duke just sealed the deal.

Could be interesting.  Acker and the rest of the team handled the press fine last year (without DJ - we lost, but not cuz of the press), but of course we're missing Wes and McNeal.   Nonetheless, I'd imagine before the UL game Buzz will go over how we're gonna break Pitino's press.  He's done it once, I have confidence he can teach our guys to do it again.

The one good thing about our size is that we have good ball handlers at all of our positions.

This was the ugliest game ever and this is why Big Ten basketball is so much fundamentally better and more sound.  At 45-42 game with teams perfectly executing their styles is much more satisfying.
