Wesley Matthews confirmed with GoMarquette.com today that he has earned a guaranteed one-year contract with the NBA's Utah Jazz.
Matthews was notified of the team's decision by general manager Kevin O'Connor on Wednesday morning. Teams had until today to release any player they weren't going to keep for the remainder of the season.
Matthews, who was the first non-drafted rookie to start for an NBA team this season, will now become a free agent at the end of the 2009-10 season. He could also re-sign with the Jazz.
The Madison, Wis., native will now turn his attention to buying/leasing a new car as his first major purchase.
Think he'll go with something practical, like a Volvo? :D
That's GREAT news!!!
Congrats to Wes on a dream come true!
If he is looking to show his newfound importance and such, I think a Dodge Stratus is in order.

(chuckle chuckle)
You needed to type in all caps to emphasize the power displayed by a DODGE STRATUS. He would instantly command respect.
I think a Geo Prizm is in order for Mr. Matthews

Are you making fun of me in my automobile?
Here's an oxymoron:
EAT shouts a Smart Car.
I am so proud of WES. He seems like a great guy who worked his butt off and now he's reaping the benefits.
I drive a Dodge Stratus. I can do 120 push-ups in ten minutes! People at work are scared of me!

I'm 6'3" and the first car I ever purchased was a Geo Metro. I could only aspire to own a Prizm.
Well done, Wes. Proud to have you as an MU alum. Chevy Equinox for all that snow in Utah.
Whew. Based on the title, I was worried he had to leave the team and take a gig to play saxophone at a club somewhere ;D
Congrats Wes!
