The whole problem with the whole Buzz situation was he didn't want Jeronne to out-do anybody on that team until his sophomore year. And that shouldn't matter - if he's going to help you, he's going to help you. They didn't want to play the game right, so now we're going to watch them lose every game. That's just how it works.

Also sadly it sounds like Tim is making the choice of where to go for Jerrone:

Tim Maymon, who was scheduled to speak with representatives from Arkansas and UCLA on Wednesday, said he's trying to help his son find a program where he'll be happy.

You hear stories about parents of athletes, but it is hard for me to believe that there are people who are like this.  I am no longer mad about this situation.  I only feel sadness on a few levels.

Agreed.  What a sad, sad situation.  I honestly can't believe any coach would want the forthcoming obstructions and distractions, because it will happen eventually.  It should make for some interesting follow-ups this time next year.

I was really hoping that Maymon would be the PF beast we needed in the worst way, but now I only hope that Maymon one day gets away from the beast known as his father.

It should say something when you are meeting with the father and not the player.

Sad, small-minded, vindictive response which speaks for itself.  Feel sorry for the player, though.

Lol - I hadn't seen that scout thread.  Ah, good old IWB, "clearing the air" with a PR story that had the rough edges removed so that both MU and the Maymons could have been happy.  Unfortunately, TM just can't keep his trap shut.
Title: Re: Tim Maymon Says He Will Watch MU Lose Everygame
Post by: 79Warrior on January 06, 2010, 12:45:40 PM

The problem for Tiny Tim now is his kid likely will be an underachiever. The old man is putting so much pressure on his son. Pathetic. Jeronne is likely to end up at a second tier school because most coaches will steer clear of the circus. Maymon is not good enough to warrant dealing with the father.

Wow! The quotes from TM are just incredible. And the picture speaks volumes as well. For JMay's sake I was hoping the speculation about TM's behavior was overblown. Guess not.

Maybe they should skip the aggrivation of college, wait a few months and declare for he draft. Those NBA coaches know how to use a player right.

Hmmm...

I've tried to take a lot of the "Tim Maymon legend" with a grain of salt.

A lot of things get blown out of proportion these days. He's simply a father looking out for his son. He's a little too public about it, but I figured he wasn't so bad.

However, this article, and specifically these quotes really illustrate that Tim doesn't have an accurate view of his son or college basketball:

""We'll discuss what are their plans for Jeronne," Tim Maymon said. "We're not doing another Buzz issue. The whole problem with the whole Buzz situation was he didn't want Jeronne to out-do anybody on that team until his sophomore year. And that shouldn't matter - if he's going to help you, he's going to help you.

"They didn't want to play the game right, so now we're going to watch them lose every game. That's just how it works.

"You don't bring a kid in and not use him the way he's supposed to be used. So this kid has left the state of Wisconsin as one of the premier players in the state. "

Good luck to the next coach that takes on this project.

I love Jeronne's game, but I'm not sure he's going to get a good chance to develop with his father so heavily involved.

There is absolutely no chance that UCLA would offer him a scholarship. Drew Gordon left UCLA midseason under very similar circumstances.

There is no way that Howland would take him.

Pure hype by Tim.

I didn't realize "playing the game the right way" was defined as making sure one player and his father were happy with his minutes and shot attempts.

Tim Maymon obviously has no concept of what winning basketball begins with. On a side note, is there anyone who can convince Jeronne to get a restraining order on his dad... just for his own good.

Guy just never helps his case when he speaks. It'd be great for Jeronne to man up and speak publicly about this issue but that won't happen until his father is comforted by another school's pillow.

That list of schools is interesting. Not a lot of character floating in the Arkansas program. Frank Martin is a Huggy clone (and was booted out of Florida high schools for his hijinks) with his reclamation projects. And then UCLA, who if they are truly considering adding Tim Maymon must be very, very desperate during their rebuild.

Not entirely true. They roughly said “Jeronne needs be playing the three. If he isn’t, we’ll take him out of Marquette”. To which Buzz responded “OK, take him out.”

Please note that this is a synapse of what happened and not a direct word for word transcript.

I was wondering about this too  ?-(

I was more so wondering if that mentally challenged father realized that his son could have started and played significant minutes on a team that just beat a top 15 team

Also, that same son could have made an even bigger name for himself by helping MU beat #6 and #8 teams in the land- not saying we woulda def won with him, but we could have

Also, maybe it crossed his mind that had those things have happened his son would be starting on a top 15 team himself, with a legit shot to blossom into a better and better player and get BE and nationwide recognition as a freshman

Way to go Timmy, instead of all that youve got him hanging out by you in mad town. What an a$$clown

glad i got that off my chest

Jeronne wouldn't have been able to put up a shot tonite that wouldn't have been swatted into the upper deck.  I think Jeronne was able to improve his 1" vertical to a full 2" due to his work ethic at MU.  He should search out a big ten team with that kind of athletism.  Call up Tubby or Tommy...  Timmy.

New Mexico is the "trendy" place to go play.

Steve Alford's got the program turned around and now everyone who feels disenchanted with their regular team wants to transfer there.

I think that's where Drew Gordon is going as well.

Love to see the sh*t hit the fan when Alford bolts for a bigger job. LOL

First of all Tim & Jeronne were on the same page-----they both wanted out-----reason being that when Jeronne was recruited it was apparently understood or misunderstood that he would play #3 & some #4----but found himself at #5 where he was needed. With and Lazar leaving after this year things didn't look like they were going to change next year as far as #3 was concerned----this was an absolute must for them as they have NBA aspirations.

Maymon is a good prospect----as i have mentioned here, he was MU's best rebounder per minute played and was the best passing big MU has recruited in a long time. His shot needs work and therefore kind of a project at #3.

Went down to ABQ over the holidays and caught the TX-Tech v. UNM game and have to say Alford is doing a great job at UNM and the Lobo faithful are very happy with the product on the floor right now (that terrible loss to SDSU not withstanding). And, so far, no real issues off court either.

I think most Lobo fans know that Alford will eventually bolt for a bigger job so I disagree with the notion that any sh*t will hit the fan. Even the Journal sports riders are saying "enjoy him while he's here."

The general feeling is to let the $60M renovation of The Pit happen, enjoy Alford for a few more years, and then move on to the next guy. Maybe even Benford will want to come back. ;)

Well perhaps JM will realize that he is an adult and cut some ties with dad, tell him to stay at home for the rest of his college career...  After he does, 2 days ago, he should rejoin the team and be there at the nova game.
