Title: VIF Gameday Event
Post by: BME to MD on February 09, 2007, 01:48:32 PM
Hey all, I have a friend coming from out of town for the Pitt game and I was a VIF this year so I was hoping to find a VIF shirt that he could wear to the VIF event before the game.  I know everyone on this board who has one will be attending but if you have friends who don't care about how big having Gameday at Marquette is shoot me a PM so I can replace them with one of the most spirited MU fans I know.  Thanks

BTW I do not need a ticket to the game I just need the VIF t-shirt and any size will do.

Are you talking about the thing where the students sit behind cardboard at the top of the lower bowl student section?  What the hell is that/ is that all about anyway.

Its a partially rigged thing where "random" fanatics are selected to go sit up there and get free food and soda

This VIF crap is bullshit..nice marketing ploy, but c'mon. The kids that are VIFs are never the first kids there and then they put them up near the box seats. What is the deal with exclusive treatment for all past VIFs for Gameday??? That is terrible, I do not understand it. Most kids that go to games early do not want to be VIFs. I would never trade my seat for free hot dogs and a soda and most real fans wouldn't either. Sweet job marketing team, way to reward real fans. Nice to know that our "real" fans will be on T.v. for Gameday!?

Well if you would look at the Marquette Website you would see there is section where you can sign up to be a VIF.

http://www.directsupplycareers.com/Marquette/

I wouldn't call that rigged.  You can also e-mail the athletic department asking to become a VIF as well as the announcements have said all year.

I'm holding out hope that some enterprising students that are planning on attending the GameDay deal will proudly hold up Warriors signage or start a Warriors chant!

The way VIF was explained to me was that it was a random selection, but number of chances was based on number of fanatic points. I earned a lot of fanatic points this fall from soccer and volleyball, and I was chosen to be a VIF for the Hillsdale game. I feel the same as others, that I normally wouldn't want to give up my good spot up close for  a normal game, but I made an exception for Hillsdale College.

Later on this season, they changed the format, so you now have to sign up.

P.S. I'm in the same situation as CT Engineering. I have a hardcore fan/friend who wasn't a VIF who is looking for a shirt to get into the VIF gameday section. PM me if CT is already taken care of. Thanks.
P.P.S. The VIF nachos are amazing.

i find it hard to believe that they give different nachos to the VIF then they give to everyone else.

i would have to say the regular seat nachos are pretty damn good too.

actually the nachos are different, the bucks do the same thing for certain season ticket holders they have specail passes to a food court section that serves food types and styles only served there, my company uses the passes all the time for bucks games so really it was probably a bradley center idea passed on to mu to use goods already in placed from the bucks and yes they are amazing

I would call seeing the same person up there 2 games if not 3 in a row rigged...not all the spots are but some people obviously get treatment for who they know....not like I care anyways I'd rather sit where I always do then up there.

I was chosen as a VIF and told I could pick two friends to join me. They then had my name and knew I was not to be a VIF the rest of the season. They meant to take down the names of my two friends for the same purpose, but that did not happen until I got an email asking for their names later on. My two friends could cheat the system if their names had not been recorded and they were later picked, or any of us could have tagged along with a friend who was chosen for another game.

My point is that I do not believe the system is rigged, and if you do see people as VIF's multiple times, they probably are at fault, not the system or athletic department staff.

well then i need to try these nachos first hand, because if the BC is holding out on me, im not going to be a very happy season ticket holder.  I just had a hard time believing it was different food since i remember being in line multiple times last year behind the marketing employee buying a dozen hot dogs and cokes for the VIF from the same concessions i was using.  it is possible they switched it up this year, but im still intrigued by these "better" nachos you guys speak of.

The nachos are different. They come right out of Club Cambria, so they are exclusive. But overall, not that great, still stadium food.

That does seem a little far fetched. They're giving nachos they know to be inferior to the majority of fans and saving the "good stuff" for a handful of student "VIF's"? Could that be?

It's just a little something extra for the whole student section. However, MU students would rather just crab about not being in it because a.) They are too dumb to check out the fanatics page or b.) never listen while the VIF section is announced.

I think a special event for Gameday is pretty fucking stupid though.

The nachos we got for VIF was a big platter of them with all kinds of toppings like cheese, sour cream, salsa, jalapenos, and shredded chicken. IMO, much, much better than standard stadium food.

Other than that, I think we got pretzels (regular, not soft), nuts, and drinks.

I bet you loved those nuts.

there is a "fancy" nacho stand on the 4th street side, at the top of the escalator, next to the portable Miller stand.

ZiggysFryBoy strongly prefers the "standard" nachos, preferably with a large Miller Lite.

Didn't Chili have a little portable stand in the BC one year?
