i said it 2-3 weeks ago and after today i beleive it more than ever....Buycks is the key to our season. When buycks plays well it allows us to not have Cubi and Acker on the floor at the same time. During the Wisky game and the NCSU games Buycks was in a huge rut turning the ball over and playing with zero confidence additonally he did not play his typical warrior defense or rebound like he can.
Tonight he was stellar led us in a ssists had zero turnovers shot the ball decently and for the most part played good defense. he made a couple of mistakes defensively down the stretch but we are infinitely better with him in the game as opposed to Acker and Cubi in at the same time.
Our only chance to win is for Butler, hayward, DJO and Buycks to play 35 minutes each. All four of them played well tonight and we had a chance to win. if he can continue to play at that level and the level he played earlier in the season we are a significantly better team. Would of been a nice one to get.
Agree with the premise that DB is a big upgrade.
DB had a good game. he missed a key below the knee rebound/loose ball at the end that cost us a lay-up.
Cubie's D was pretty brutal. He was obviously overmatched but man he got crossed up on picks and pulled an ole on the big dunk that really gave WVU the idea they were gonna come back and win.
Buycks is improving slowly but surely. This game was the first that he was dribble-driving and getting stuck... but without taking a stupid shot every time and getting the outlet pass off. He wasn't quite creating instant offense off of his outlet passes, but at least he wasn't creating TOs at such a high rate.
I'm waiting with bated breath for Buyck's breakout game this year :)
He take his man on a dribble but he's been getting stuck as to what to do with it when he gets into nowhere land/picks up his dribble/no cutters or outlets/he's not where he wants to be. He usually jacks up a shot...which he did make in the 2nd half.
His teammates helped him out by spreading the floor for his drives, but need to bail him out when he needs it (i.e., cut).
I thought DB played well, my only complaint was at the end of the game when the ball was bouncing around in the lane and our guys (DB I think) stood and reached for it rather than hitting the deck. Jones ultimately go the ball and put it back in to cut the lead to 1 point. That was a critical play. Have to get your knees skinned up and hit the floor for those critical loose balls.
Overall, thought he played a nice game.

I agree he hits the deck there and ties it up and the game is potentially over. Hayward did the same thing during an earlier possesion. A huge pet peeve with me. They will see it on film and hopefully will be embarrassed by it and realize it had a factor in them losing the game. we practice it. I rarely blow a whistle, in fact i rarely carry one, but if we have a loose ball and dont have at least 2-3 guys diving on the deck we just go right to the end line and depending on my mood and how pissed it made me we run alittle or we run alot.
