Catching up on a few things

OK, so we took a collective break on the blog.....thanks for bearing with us and we hope you are all enjoying the Christmas season. Here are few items of note --
2010 signee Jamail Jones had a great tournament at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers recently. ESPN said the 6'6" Jones (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=4761288) "understands how to spot up from his teammates' dribble drives or free himself by reading his defender, using the screen and cutting to open spots on the floor". One of the guys on MUScoop saw Jones and had this to offer (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=16667.0).
Fellow 2010 signee Vander Blue dominated late in Madison Memorial's 56-43 win over Milwaukee King. Blue scored 22 points including 10 in the final period to seal the win. (http://www.slamonline.com/online/college-hs/high-school/2009/12/converseeastbay-classic-report/) According to Slam Magazine, Blue was the most outstanding prospect at the recent Converse/Eastbay Classic held at the Al McGuire Center. The Journal-Sentinel adds a bit more here (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/79740057.html).
By the way, MU's upcoming game against Presbyterian on December 27th will not include a television broadcast. To view the game, click on GoMarquette -- they'll stream the game live on the interwebs (http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/122309aaa.html). Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm on Sunday. Last time out the Warriors shellacked the North Florida Ospreys 78-51 (http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/122309aaa.html).
Look for lineup changes for MU. Rosiak reports that Buzz is likely to move away from starting Acker and Cubillan in the backcourt when BIG EAST play begins (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/goldeneagles/79865832.html). Finally.

Jamail had a huge first game. His team took 4th place (2 wins, 2 losses) and games 2 and 3 of 4 (...and 4) were nothing to write home about. CrockedSikwalks simply took the reports from day one and ran with a 'summary'... lazy/sloppy 'reporting'.
In other news, the ass-preys as George Thompson calls 'em, were obviously inspired by the pounding from Marquette:
GULFPORT, Miss. - Brad Haugabrook scored 11 points and North Florida held off Southern Mississippi in the closing minutes to take a 53-46 victory on Wednesday night.
The Ospreys (4-7) won their third straight game, all coming in the South Mississippi Christmas Classic. They entered the tournament on a six-game losing streak, but defeated Canisius 65-61 on Monday and New Orleans 64-49 on Tuesday.
Southern Miss (8-3) shot 20.8 percent from the field (5-for-24) in the first half and North Florida led 24-13 at halftime.
Haugabrook hit a free throw to give North Florida a 48-41 lead with 1:25 left, but Gary Flowers hit a jumper and R.L. Horton nailed a 3-pointer to cut the advantage to 48-46 with 34 seconds left.
The Ospreys then scored the final five points.
Flowers led Southern Miss with 20 points and 12 rebounds, his second consecutive game with a double-double.

The guys over at LostLetterman.com sent along a terrific podcast and interview with former Marquette Warriors star, Butch Lee (http://www.lostlettermen.com/2009/12/butch-lee-podcast-all-signs-point-to-success-in-puerto-rico/). Lee talks about his new life down in Puerto Rico playing basketball and owning his own sign business. Great stuff, fellas.
