I would NEVER call Bob Knight a class act, and I don't understand how some do, but I do understand he did many things well.  I loved his comments on Calipari.  I haven't had the chance to read the UK boards yet, but I'm looking forward to it when I get a minute or two.

He had a lawsuit against the university.  I guess it makes sense that he'd like to steer clear of an organization he's suing.

He graduated his players, they stayed out of trouble, his players respected him, as do most in the coaching profession.  He had a horrible temper and handled some situations with his players poorly and rashly, but he is still beloved and were it not for administrators on a power trip, he would never have left Indiana.  Despite Neil Reed and maybe 1-2 others I can't recall, most of the players at the center of his alleged wrongdoings didnt have negative things to say about him.

Would you call Lombardi a class act?  When by all accounts he was extremely disliked by his players...

Maybe he went to the campus but not the event just to spite them.  :D

+1 Bob.

Had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago and actually attended a press conference when Texas Tech was at the Great Alaska Shootout.  Even though I was supposed to be covering the tournament for a website, I couldn't help confronting him after their last game and telling him how much I respected him.

I really think this is a guy that, yes, does have some issues, but has always had the best interests of the game at heart and is truly one of the game's great coaches.  I think we may have thrown him under the bus to some extent.  I'd rather have a player poked in the chest for being dumb then a coach who looks the other way while his recruits scam the SAT.

No doubt about it Cal is dirty.  I'm still trying to figure out why Kentucky, who can use their reputation to get top 50 kids would resort to a known sleaze like Cal.  It only a matter of time before he gets caught at KU and when he does Blue Nation is going to be very embarrassed.

Actually, he said he didn't attend because he didn't want to overshadow the other inductees accomplishments.

Reread it, it makes perfect sense.  If you missed a wake, and then showed up at the funeral, it would be your first public appearance SINCE the wake.

Unfortunately, I think many of the UK fans want to win now and theyare  not patient enough to do it the right way.  As long as they get their Final Fours now, it really won't matter if they get vacated at a later date... they will still have the memories, money, etc..  At this point, Calipari hasn't had serious enough violations while he has been coach to impact current teams.

They really need to come down so much harder on institutions and the coach who was there when this stuff happens.  Money should be returned, scholarships taken away much more severely, and the coach should be suspended for a period of time.  Until that happens, the Calipari's of the world will simply grow.

Would I call Lombardi a class act? More than I would Knight.  This isn't about being liked.  Dealing with kids and adults are two very different things.  Lombardi did not need to be a role model...his job was to win.  I think he made that point with his players/employees.

Knight was representing his country when he was sentenced to jail time in Puerto Rico, said women should enjoy being raped, physically lashed out against men, women and children, maybe shot a guy or two, etc...  Like I said, I get the guy did some good things at Indiana.  Would I call him classy, heck no.  That's a personal opinion on where you draw the line.

Bobby Knight never said women should enjoy being raped.  His exact quote was "I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it" referring to a game where the referees were making poor calls against his team.

I've seen Marquette raped by the referees on more than one occasion.  Not a single woman was involved.

I don't care what the reference is, it was really a dumb thing to say.
