Don't understand fans being pissed about their coach leaving. I can totally sympathize with those who are angry the worthless jerk overstays his welcome. Time to celebrate the departure.

HE ABANDONED THEM BEFORE THEIR FIRST BCS BOWL GAME.

THE TEAM IS UNDEFEATED.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

This is why I'm a big proponent of eliminating college coaching contracts.   They exist to serve nobody but the coach.    If Coach X leaves Anystate University for a different job there's virtually no financial punishment.   Now say Anystate University decides that coach isn't living up to expectations.   That school has to pay out the balance of the contract.  The whole system has to be revised.

I'm also in favor of not being able to hire a new coach until after the completion of the post-season in any sport.  People say "well, that would ruin recruiting", and I say..."well you brought it upon yourself when you canned your coach mid-contract".

These coaches are all on easy street and it's time for someone to step up and change that.

Everything and anything related to Cincy can suck a fart from my ass.  Screw 'em.

There was a buy out in the contract.  ND bought it out.

They were in a BCS bowl game last year.

While that's true, I don't understand why these schools don't make it an astronomical, yet negotiable amount.  Most upcoming coaches will sign anything, why give them away to future suitors?  Other schools will pay for top-level talent. Why not set the buyout at 2/3 of the current contract?

Because if a guy really doesn't want to be there, why make it too punitive for him to leave?

You're right, but it doesn't really change the situation... they have a shot at being the #2 team in the country.

1st, 2nd, etc. It don't matter. Kelly accomplished what he set out to do. Pretty sure he's set for life now. They don't ask how, they ask how many?

Well if a school decides halfway through the contract that they no longer want him there, he'll expect 100% of the remaining balance of his contract. It should work both ways. College coaching contracts are silly

Y'know, if Cincy had a playoff game to play today/tomorrow/whenever, Kelly wouldn't have left.

At least not yet.

Just saying.

Anyone see his presser and think it sounded strangely familiar?

Like a certain PC from Bloomington, April 2008?

Blame Cincy then.  They were a party to the agreement.

I'll blame every school that doesn't have a buyout about equal to the remainder of the coach's contract.

Did the players heard about it from ESPN first?

Then good luck signing an up-and-coming coach.  Look, Cincy knows their place in the college football universe.  They know that Kelly was going to be gone.  They know that they need to make a better decision when choosing their successor than Louisville did.

That's the way the game is played.
