Title: DirecTV in Milwaukee
Post by: CaptainHavoc on December 09, 2009, 09:48:55 PM
Does anyone here have DirecTV and live in Milwaukee?  If I get the DirecTV sports pack, would the games that are televised on Time Warner 32 be blacked out if I could find it on another station?

Thanks

I don't live in Milwaukee, but have Directv in Ohio.  Most games can be found somewhere in the sports pack if channel 32 happens to be blacked out.  A number of stations from out east broadcast the MU games due to them being in the Big East.  It's very nice (in borat voice)

My understanding is that Time Warner is not picked up as a local channel.  But you can add the Sports Pack for $12 a month on your cable package and get SNY, which broadcasts nearly all BE games.

I ask because DirecTV's website only says professional sports are blacked out.  Seems to me college sports would be affected too.

Let me clarify.  I realize that Time Warner 32 is not carried on DirecTV.  My question is if Time Warner 32 in Milwaukee is televising a game, would DirecTV black out the game on SNY, for example, for customers in the Milwaukee area.  Time Warner 32 is exclusively on Time Warner Cable.

Where you at in Ohio? I'm in Shelby (near Mansfield) for a few more weeks if you're close to that and/or there's a tavern somewhere in Ohio where MU fans gather for games.

Most college games are not blacked out, sometimes ACC games are but it's rare.

They are not blacked out.  My cousin in O.C. has DirecTV and subscribes to the sports pack; we sling the MU games on SNY (channel 639, I believe) from his computer.  Sometimes the games on SNY are in HD according to my cuz, but I can't confirm that since I don't even get SD over the Slingbox.

I have direcTV and have carried the Sportspack specifically for the TWC32 games in previous years. Not all of them are carried on other channels but almost all of them are and many times in HD even though TWC32 isn't in HD (AFAIK)

The channel is broadcast in HD, but I've never seen an MU game on that channel actually sourced in HD with HD cameras.  But, the quality is still better because it's essentially upconverted because the bitrate is so much better on a HD broadcast channel.
