Title: Yous Mbao
Post by: OhioGoldenEagle on December 07, 2009, 07:38:40 PM
It's painfully obvious that we are a bit unhappy with the lack of playing time for Erik Williams and Mbao.  Regarding Mbao here, considering Buzz has yet to give him any meaningful minutes in nonconference play, I can't imagine that he has Yous in his plans for Big East play when the games matter most.  This inspite of the fact that we are undermanned and undersized!  That being said, why doesn't Buzz redshirt him this year?  We all knew he was going to be a project, so why are we wasting a year of his eligibility?  He seems atypically athletic for 7+ footer, so I imagine with a solid year of D1 practice and weight training, he could be a solid player.  Is it still possible to redshirt him at this point?

My guess would be to even out the classes, Junior will already be redshirted which means Yous would make 6.

No, he's played in 3 games (Gramb, SD, and an appearance in FSU), so he is ineligible for a redshirt.  Unless of course he got injured, in which case they might grant him one because of his limited appearances.

But I don't want him to have to redshirt because of an injury!  Need him to get as much practice time as possible.

I'm not clear on redshirt rules but I'm pretty sure he would have to get hurt to justify a medical redshirt at this point and the standard redshirt isn't an option.  I like the thought that someone had that if he's really not able to earn minutes next year that Buzz should give a thought to redshirting him then.  With Otule back, the inevitable fourth addition to the 2010 class, and hopefully improved Maymon and EWill it wouldn't be worth parading a complete project out there if he can't make some contribution on a team with a much fuller roster.  But speaking of his progress, has he managed to put on any weight?  I mean 3/4 of the freshman class every year can gain a bunch of weight without trying, so it's pretty bad if he's still at 215 and EWill is still at 200.

3/4 of the freshman class doesn't run through Division One basketball practice on a daily basis

You are right that we won't see Mboa in the BEast games if we don't see him now.  Maybe he should get some decent minutes in any blowout games - in the beginning of the season would have been nice to see him get 5 - 6 minutes.  If we don't see him in non-conf., we aren't going to see him in the BEast - and we need our bench badly.

Someone needs to save this post and just put <insert name here> in place of Mbao.  We could then haul it out every year after a couple losses when the sky starts falling and the "big name" recruits aren't playing.

Really?  I didn't know they had to do that.

It's not that I think he should play, it's just obvious that he won't. Why not red shirt him right away instead of putting him in for 18 minutes? Was that 18 minutes worth a whole year?

Both Mbao and EW aren't playing because they are playing too soft and neither has good court sense
at the current time-----both have loads of upside.

They couldn't redshirt him right away because of the NCAA suspension.

wow the posts get strange indeed after a loss.  Lets see we have played 8 games Mbao was ineleigible the first two then he played in the next two games, since then we have played 4 straight NCAA tourney caliber teams and mbao has sat.  That causes one to concluded that he will no longer play against the patsies?

A steady diet of Marquette Gyros and Chili should do it in a about month.

With a trip to Kopp's for dessert.   Isn't that what the freshman girls do?    Always seemed to put weight on them.

you're delusional if you think they were that motivated for ice cream.  the freshman gather around the dining hall ice cream machine like it's some sort of golden idol.  i'm surprised god doesn't smite them for worshipping a false god.  also, i've never seen more pissed off/depressed girls then when the machine is broken during dinner.  i worked at the front desk of mccormick and got to see it firsthand.  all the whining and complaining is best compared to this message board after a MU loss.

I worked 4 years in food service in college.   You don't have to tell me.   One Friday evening, after a few brews, my floormates and I stole the scoops from the ice cream freezer at Cobeen. (no soft serve in those days).    We set them in the middle of our table near the ice cream.    No girls would come over and take them.   They did, however, go complain to the cafeteria manager and received new scoops.    Which we also stole and placed in the middle of our table.    Again, no girls would come over to our table for the scoops.    They resorted to scooping out the ice cream with bowls.

In those 18 minutes he will be seeing taller players than he ever sees in practice.

What cracked me up was the TAB floats the 'beeners would make. Cram a glass full of ice cream, then put a smidge of TAB (diet drink for you youngsters) instead of coke. Like that teaspoon of coke would make a caloric difference.

I'd probably select a different nickname for the ladies of Cobeen.  "Beeners" has a negative connotation.

The point of this post has nothing to do with the results of the Florida State and NC State games.  I was simply throwing out the idea that if Buzz doesn't foresee Mbao being ready this year, why waste a year of his eligibility when you can redshirt him, put weight on him, make him stronger, and improve his overall game on the court......and still have him for an additional four years.  You're right that doesn't make ANY sense at all.

as has been said in other posts.

Red shirting Mbao makes that class have 6 people in it.  Hard to balance class sizes and recruiting with 6 schollies in one year.

I grew up in the Southwest, and you could get your ass kicked for calling someone a beaner.  Imagine my surprise a couple of years ago when I was in Toledo and there was a coffee shop called "Beaners."
