on 540 ESPN. He was just joking but I thought it was funny. He finished his thought by saying the only school he likes less than Wisconsin is Duke.
Didn't MU beat Duke a few years ago when Duke was in the top ten...and on a neutral court. I don't recall MU fans breaking their arms patting themselves on the back a la the Wisky faithful.
Yes, MU beat Duke in the CBE Classic a couple years ago - not sure where Duke was ranked at the time.

Except the fact that we hung a freaking banner in the Bradley Center to celebrate.
Thankfully that banner is now gone.
It was a great game. DJ took over the game for us and Ouze played stellar. McSteal picked Paulus's pocket a half dozen times. Duke was ranked #8 at the time and we were #17.

Ooze shut down McRoberts down the stretch - denying him on 4 or 5 consecutive possessions.
Was the rumor true about that banner: did it not just say that we beat Duke but also that they were number 8. Has there been any other banner that proclaimed the rankings of teams?

What??? I can't say I ever really noticed the banner in the first place, but, really?
It's an embarrassing fact. It listed the teams we beat, including "#8 Duke." It hung in the Bradley Center for a couple years.
Badger fans storming the court was pretty lame...the banner was much, much worse.
The CBE and GAS banners have left along with a certain head coach.

He naps with one and Joanie keeps the other on their bed.
That banner was a Tan Cream special. Indiana should put one up for their win agianst Boston University...whoops!!!
Let's not make the post about that.
I will agree that Bucky is taking this pretty serious. A good friend of mine who went to UW called after the game and he said state street looked like a final four win. The only reason I can see why the excitement is so high is that this was suppose to be a down year for UW. Either way it makes the MU-UW game more interesting. I am happy that I am flying to Madison to attend with that same friend. I hope I am the one excited on state street.
I love when Wisconsin wins games like these.
There forum boards blow up like they won the national championship
"How Great Can This Team Be?!?!?!"
"No Love on ESPN, blah blah blah"
Gotta love it,
Wisconsin, congrats on the win, you'll make the NCAA tournament, lose in the first weekend. Which might be better than how MU fares (I'm still thinking we will squeak in somehow), but in a year or two, your cupboard will be bare of any athletic talent.
They freak out because JP Tokoto was in attendance of that game UW/Duke. You better hope a player like Tokoto makes it to UW, but I have a feeling he was watching Duke more than UW on Wednesday.
The UW hate here is incredible. They played a great game and beat a top team. I guarantee if it was MU that beat Duke, I would be going nuts. I would definitely be partying on 3rd afterwards. Let them enjoy it, build up their team spirit, and destroy them at the KC

This.
*for the record, I HATE the badgers, but I also hate being a hypocrite, so I don't want to rip them for being excited. I'd be excited too.*

From reading your posts, you are clearly a UW fan. Thank you for your patronage.
Am I the only one who thinks Duke just isn't that good? I don't know I was more shocked at how bad Duke is then how UW is any good.
Storming the court is also ridiculous, I mean you beat a Top 5 team in DECEMBER!
Here's to crushing them in their beloved Kohl Center.
I suspect Duke is rather over-rated at this point. They did beat a re-building UConn team on a neutral court, but, until Plumlee is healed, Duke is going to take its lumps as its not a quick team overall. Not knocking UW as both are probably Top 25 teams. But neither is Top 10 at this juncture nor is either likely to be Top 10.

Well, considering I chose to go to Marquette over Madison, have fanatic tickets, cheer for Marquette....I think it's safe to say I'm a Marquette Fan. I just don't like it when people are arrogant about how MU is soooo much better than other schools. MU is a great school, but that doesn't mean other schools aren't. Use Jesuit values- Learn from others mistakes, show class and look at things in an intellectual, objective way.
Are you telling me that you wouldn't be screaming in joy at beating Duke? I know I was when we did it last time.
I have no problem with the celebration, a bit over board but understandable. I am sure MU would be very noisy and excited had we beat Duke at the BC this past week. With that I do not think as a MU fan and a WI resident that one should get so angry over people talking trash about UW. It is a sport rivarly it is always going to happen. I enjoy being the minority out of my friends who went to and cheered for MU. I do not take it personally on the boards when UW gets bashed. I also do not think anyone, in this thread at least, has said anything that requires a comment on using Jesuit values when thinking of UW. I have seen Father Wilde get a bit "wild" over the team.
I didn't mean cheered as in the past. Still a MU fan and still cheer for them. And not cheer as in a male cheerleader.

I can agree with most of what you say. Though, I am not a UW apologist in 90% of my posts on these boards. I was happy we beat Duke, who wouldn't be. Would I have charged the court? Clearly, no.
I stormed the court at the Omni in Atlanta in March of '77. Hope to do it again under a similar set of circumstances.

I was on the court at the Omni that night as well. Though, it did take us a while to "storm" down from the upper deck. :D
Given how excited UW is over the win (which I have no problem with), I was wondering where is the JS article on how the Badgers are not exactly going to win the National Championship?
What was that writesrs name after our UConn win in Novak's senior year? Is she still working there?
Were you the dude who ripped off the NBC Sports banner? Nonetheless, for sports memories, there is nothing finer than that Final Four weekend in Atlanta. I hope all of my MUScoop brothers and sisters will some day experience the same feeling.

I think we hung a banner for winning the championship, Duke happened to be the team we beat for the championship.

I think we Tom Crean hung a banner for winning the championship, to let everyone know that he was better than Bob Knight and Coach K. Duke happened to be the team we beat for the championship.
Fixed that for ya. You're welcome! :D
Please add, "if only in his own mind."

I hope you realize how right you are. That is EXACTLY what was going on with that banner. EXACTLY.
Have I mentioned how glad I am that he's gone? I would literally take a 12th place finish in the Big East to be rid of him (but I don't think that's going to happen).

Whoops, I think I just hijacked the topic.
Nonetheless, I was ecstatic about those wins over Texas Tech and Duke (was at those games), and didn't understand the banner at the time. I do (now) realize why we had that banner, and it's sad.

It may have been hokey to hang those banners. But, sad..thats not the case. TC hung those as part of his "philosophy" of his team playing for championships. Simply a hokey motivational tool. Probably should just have done that at The Al, if at all. Different strokes for (admittedly) different folks.

You bet. No on the NBC banner.
