Title: Great quote from Buzz on E. Williams
Post by: PuertoRicanNightmare on November 22, 2009, 09:22:40 AM
I pulled this from Rosiak's blog...I don't want to be blasphemous, but this sounds like something McGuire would say! I love it! I'm rooting for Erik to get it going and I think he will.
__________

Erik Williams: "I love Erik. I hope my two boys grow up to be the person that he is, but my two boys wouldn't play if they didn't earn the right to play. Because at the end of the day I've got to make sure my boys get to eat, and you've got to earn the right to eat. He didn't earn the right to eat. He worked extremely hard on Thursday and Friday, he got to play today. It was the best he's ever played, because he prepared to be the best he could possibly be. I'm an OK coach, but the bench is a great coach. Sit over there and you rot, and you kind of figure out, 'Uh oh, I may not get to play.' And it didn't take him long to figure it out. That tells you how smart he is."

You gotta know your guys tho. For some the bench is a good teaching tool, for other kinds of players it can be a breeding ground for pity parties. I'm pretty positive Buzz is right with regards to E Will.

I laughed out loud when I read this part last night.  I'm not sure if Buzz is saying his boys need to earn the right to eat, or that he (Buzz) has got to earn the right so that his boys can eat.

Either way, it wasn't his point, he was trying to make an analogy that EW needed to work hard in practice to earn the right to play.

I just hope buzz keeps his boys fed.  Cuz we can tell Buzz is eating.  lol.

The kind of players who respond to the bench by holding "pity parties" are the kind you don't want on your team.

I like this, sounds like a good Texan...teaching independence and the need to succeed on their own, not looking for a handout or anything unless it is earned.  Exactly how it should be.

I watched the game last night and there was a moment where Buzz was really giving Williams some tough love during a time out. I have a feeling both Williams are diamonds in the rough.

I think Buzz took the entire timeout turning Ewill inside out. Lazar was even putting his arm on Buzz holding him back.  Great teammates tho after the huddle broke they all came over and gave Ewill a pat or word of encourageemnt.

Was that time out right after EWill shot a three before the team got a paint touch?  Buzz openly admitted to chewing him out on the radio after the game.

And what are the chances that EWill takes another 3 before a paint touch?  Tough love and message received loud and clear.
