Title: Everyone Happy Now?
Post by: 4everwarriors on November 21, 2009, 08:28:31 PM
Otule starts tonight and is holding his own. EWill obviously got out of Buzz' stinkhouse and contributing. Yous didn't play in the first half. Maybe we can bitch about that. And, for all the Crean lovers, IU didn't lose to a nobody today.

I am happy, though I know nothing about this team yet since we've played 3 absolute stiffs.  We might be good, we might not be, who knows.  Probably find out next weekend when we play someone for real.

PS  I'm not against the schedule we've played thus far, it makes sense considering how young we are and the roster turnover.

I didn't realize that Centenary actually beat Grambling this year already...at Grambling.  But Grambling did get a nice win over Paul Quinn College.

Our schedule strength is 299 right now, before playing Grambling who is ranked in the 300's.  LOL.  I'll bet we have the worst schedule strength in the country after tonight's schedule.

To be sincerely honest, I don't think Grambling could beat some Community Colleges, thats how bad this competition is.

How Hayward got 4 fouls again so quick against this team is a scary thought.

Good practice, lots of lineup changes, Buycks and all guards played great.

Bad things - Maymon non-existent and Buzz really getting into E Will's face in huddle until the point Hayward had to pull Buzz back twice.  Thought it would be a Bobby Knight explosion for a minute.

More bad things:
Grambling shot 83.3% from the free throw line. We were already 340th in free throw defense at 80.1%. Now, we sink even lower.  ;D

Probably should consult Skiles. He's got this figured out.

Wouldn't you just love to be Buzz' drycleaner? The dude soils more clothing in 2 hours than most of us do in a month.

Its said that you cannot coach free throw defense.  A team either has it or not.

Although a well placed fan with a powerful strobe might contribute in a positive fashion, I think.   ::)

Oh and I am not happy that my predictions totally sucked. Was close on 3, way, way, way, way off on the rest.

Ding ding ding....who the hell wears a shirt and tie without a t-shirt underneath.  I thought that was just common knowledge and a MUST.  Maybe it's a Texas thing.

LOL...We don't practice free throws, and it's obvious we don't practice free throw defense.

I think Bruce's sweat has a beer "head" on it from partying with the young kids!

It is nice to have an end to the EWill conspiracy theories.   He got sick, missed some practices and then didn't practice with the intent and intensity Buzz wanted.   Message sent, message received and acted on.  Came out of my seat on his first dunk.     It was nice to see Buycks acting like a Jerel McNeal/Vinnie Johnson hybrid, chasing his shots, getting boards on both ends.    It was nice to see Cubi's defensive pressure.
Too many dumb fouls by Lazar, too many JMay shots blocked.    Both need to play smarter.

Absolutely true. No way to judge this team until we play in Orlando. Beating up HS teams is one thing. Lets see after this week what we have.

It's alright if we beat bad teams.  It gets the guys a little bit of intense play, even if they are better than who they are playing.  Plus, a lot of teams step down and play at their competitors level of play....its good to see that Marquette has not stepped down to sub-par competition and have kept to their game plan.

If they did step down to their opponents talent level, I'm pretty sure Buzz would rip them a new one, so I can see why they haven't done so.

The biggest competition on the court right now is for playing time.  MU is going to be a tough match-up team to prepare for this year.  I still don't know who will eventually start at the end of the year, except Lazar and Jimmy.  We can fill it up, that is for sure.  One thing I love about Buzz's team is he stresses high energy offense.  Fun to watch.

It was also great to see a good defensive effort last night, although defense won't be a strength.  Better positioning, I thought.  Buzz is a teacher.

Regardless of how bad Grambling is, I was happy to see a number of things last night.

1.  EWill getting in the game and producing.  A dunk is a nice way to start a career and good confidence builder for him.  Who knows what Buzz was saying to him during the timeout, but I suspect that Buzz has high hopes for Erik which is why he is giving him such a hard time.
2.  Otule getting the start - he must really be improving in practice and we are going to need him starting Thanksgiving day
3.  Mbao getting a taste of D1 ball in his first game......although he needs to get stronger and more aggressive in the interior
4.  It has definitely been a cup-cake schedule thus far (what else is new), but we are taking care of business and then some.  Even when MU had the 3 amigos there were plenty of cup-cakes that we should have destroyed but only won by 10-20.  That being said, this team really moves the ball around trying to find the open man.....and they are knocking down the open shots with consistency!  We have yet to play an opponent worthy enough to tell us how good MU actually is, but I'm pretty happy with how the team is playing thus far......they have exceeded my expectations!

Bring on Xavier!

Last night was my first time seeing Mbao and I was impressed with his speed getting up/down the court.  Probably won't equate to much this season, but atleast he didn't look like a complete stiff.

When is the last time we had a 7 footer on his first D1 play catch pivot and pass out of the post for an assist.  Mbao is 25 lbs away from being a superstar and will play in the League

Warm and fuzzy just to know the latest 8th place banner will soon be hoisted to the top of Assembly Hall.
