Title: Bring On The Speculation
Post by: 4everwarriors on November 19, 2009, 09:47:05 PM
In discussing the signing of Smith, Buzz told Roziak he'd love to sign a player in spring if it's perfect. Or, sign a transfer, if it's perfect.
Elusive as Buzz is, is he just blowing smoke up Todd's heine, or can the transfer signing speculation begin?

Wouldn't the transfer have to sit out for an entire year?  And if so, would the transfer sitting out for the year count as one of the 13 scholarships?

I don't know who you could really expect to transfer quite yet.  It would suck to already know you are transferring just 2 or 3 games into a season.  Players struggling now might start fitting into their respective systems and like their spots.  Others will have big roles and end up transferring anyway (see Dameon Mason).

It would be nice to land a Robert Jackson though!

Yes and yes.

How about Keaton Nankivil?  The Madison Memorial boys can reunite for one last run.  :D
OK, it ain't gonna happen, but wow, would we be dominant with him in our line-up.

I think the simplest explanantion is that he's referring to a JC transfer and simply left out the JC.

Personally, I think it is a smoke screen.  Buzz has played all the recruiting pretty close to the chest.

If we hear of someone coming to MU it is because the recruit or someone close to him said it.

Did anyone think we were going to be signing Reggie Smith yesterday?

I think not.

A JUCO big is my guess, as to what will happen with the last scholarship.

However...I wouldnt be suprised if a certain player from a PAC 10 school transfered to MU.

I did. Remember, I saw him sitting on the bench Tuesday night with wearing a boot on his foot. OK, maybe it was Junior but I was so hoping it was Reggie. Evidently he saw my post and decided to commit.

Business idea:  Set up a lemonade stand outside of the Al, but instead of lemonade we could sell walking boots.

I believe they are serious about looking at a mid-year transfer in December.  Such a transfer would be eligible after the 1st semester 2010 or late December, 2010.  A very viable option in my opinion.

What about Ricardo Ratliffe from Florida JC?

There are reasons kids can transfer and not sit out a year.  Largely for medical or family reasons.  See that kid that went from duke to memphis.  Elliot Williams.

Nuke, I agree. Wouldn't shock me to see a guy transfer in December... He would miss the non-conference games next year, but would be eligible for next year's Big East season.

Here is a list of the JUCO rankings. http://jucojunction.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=2526 It looks as thought were recruiting #2 FREDDY ASPRILLA!

Asprilla signed with K-State. Was an odd recruitment when you look at the list of schools involved.

Ratliffe would be an interesting get.

Maybe Buzz can use his Texas ties to land this kid...

http://rivals.yahoo.com/jucojunction/basketball/recruiting/player-Darrell-Williams-103475

Don't know ANYTHING about Darrell Williams, but he's 6'8", 235lb...maybe Buzz, Jimmy, Joe, and E-Will can work some magic on a fellow Texan...

Not to mention it'd be fun to pull a quick one on DePaul seeing as how they're apparently one school that he's high on...

If it happens, I would not be surprised.  Jamil Wilson's pick of Oregon seemed like a act of desperation as all his other choices disappeared.

Anyone know how he's doing out there?

+1.  That's the one on the list that stuck out to me the most.

Good size, at a Texas CC, and the list of interested schools makes it sounds like he has some skills.  According to his bio at Midland CC he averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds last year.  From reading game recaps he had 17/7 in the team's first game, 15/8 in the second, but hasn't been mentioned in the recaps as a top performer in the last three.  Perhaps one to watch and see in the spring.

And actually, he's from Chicago.  Perhaps Buzz has some connections to the Texas coaching staff and Darrell Williams wants to play close to home...   http://www.midland.edu/athletics/basketball-men/bios/darrellwilliams.php

No indication of his minutes or how he plays defense.  Might be an interesting page to track.

not a desperation move at all.

and he is doing pretty well considering he is a freshman.

I wouldnt say it was desparation. He wanted to go one place, and those around him wanted him to go somewhere else. Jamil went to where he wanted to go, and looks to be doing OK, so far as a freshman.

That being said...again, I wouldnt be suprised if he made his way back to this area.
