Title: Jay Cutler did it with a football at Candlestick...
Post by: MU B2002 on November 12, 2009, 10:49:01 PM
The vicitim: my hopes and dreams of a playoff berth.

Note: I am a huge fan of Cutler as the QB of the future, but after the Packer game and this game I am pretty sure my life will be at least a year shorter.

After the Packers-Bucs game last week, I know the feeling all to well.  :-\

Not to defend a 5 INT performance, but:

-Hester falling down caused one INT
-Hester was picked by the umpire on another
-Without question, a missed pass interference call on another

Doesn't excuse the 2 in the red zone however!  ;D

I agree, they weren't all his fault and in his defense he gets  a nice pocket to throw from about 15% of the time. But the 2 that were his fault were awful pics at absolutely the worst possible times.  The int at the end was brutal since Olsen was open just, but he just threw it to the wrong side.(FWIW I don't pretend to be an NFL QB, but I am an awesome armchair/Monday morning QB.) Maybe the Bears and packers should just swap O-Lines, since neither can block worth a crap for their own QB, maybe a change of location would help.

I know I went to bed with high blood pressure last night! Still ticked.

Cutler needs to stop focusing on Olsen every stinking pass.  The Bears need to get receivers and they need to move Hester to the slot (ala Wes Welker). He is no #1 or #2 receiver. Aging defense looked pretty tough, but these guys are going nowhere. Frustrating.

As a bears fan that lives around Denver, all I can say is...

...same old same old.

For Bears fans, in my mind, Jay Cutler = Rex Grossman.  I honestly believe both young men will end up being good QBs, but you have to give them time.

I really hope that Cutler > Grossman considering Grossman is maybe a 3rd string QB in Houston or something. Maybe you have had too many Flying Dog Pale Ales tonight and meant Cutler=Orton, which I still think is a reach.

Yes, Rex and Jay are both "gunslingers" but I think the comparison ends there...

Ability-wise, neither Orton or Grossman hold a candle to Cutler.  When you combine his rocket arm with an aggressive mentality at quarterback, it gives the Bears a chance to come back from any deficit. Neither Grossman nor Orton had a good enough arm to consistently throw into a defense that has a lead and knows you have to pass.  Cutler does.

However, his pass first, think later mentality leads to foolish turnovers and his unorthodox delivery (lazy drop back, failure to step into most of his throws) leads to unnecessarily inconsistent accuracy.  I'd be frightened to see what a coach who is good with QBs could do with him.

As a 49er fan, I was screaming at the TV during the final Bear drive of the game.

Cutler was able to navigate the field with ease...but oh well. :)

0-7 in Candlestick since their SB season in 1985.  :D

Cutler needs to get his emotions in check. He's a headcase.
