Title: MU Audio on iPhone via ESPN Radio App?
Post by: Benny B on November 04, 2009, 03:13:44 PM
So I noticed that the iPhone has an app that allows you to listen to various streams of ESPN radio, and my understanding is the 540AM is one of the options.

Can anyone confirm that you will be able to listen to the radio broadcast of MU games by downloading the app?  I'm trying to make sure that MU games, like many sports broadcasts, won't be "blacked out" from the iPhone stream.

Although, for $3, it's not much of a risk... I'd just like to avoid giving Disney any more of my money than I have to.

Benny.  If you find out or try the app, please post back and let us know how it works.  I for one would be interested.  Thanks.

I have the app and it works well, ESPN 540 works. I would assume that you can listen to MU games but I guess I won't know for sure until the games start.  When I find out for sure I will let you know, its a pretty sweet app though.  Jailbreak your phone and get it for free lol

The app works great for me too.  I was just using it about 45 minutes ago.  I hadn't thought about using it for MU games.  That would be outstanding if it worked because 540 doesn't always come in well at my house at night.

so if you are at home, why not just stream it directly from the 504 site on a PC?

I've found that with sports play-by-play it gets "blacked out" on the internet...I've tried to listen to tourney games in the past since I can't get AM reception to save my life at the office and I've never been able to get the games.

If it works, I'm getting this app (would be the first time I actually paid for one).

Last year, I streamed multiple MU games from the 540AM website; but since the only games I ever listen to are away games that aren't televised, perhaps home games and tournament games have different blackout rules.

However, even if you're able to stream via a laptop or PC, it seems that some iPhone streams of various play-by-play have different blackout rules.

Any way... I suspect that by Saturday afternoon we'll have our answer.

It doesn't make sense to me but the feed from the website through my laptop is often very choppy.  On my Itouch, using the ESPN radio app, it has only stopped a couple of times while mowing in the backyard, as far away from my router as I can go (opposite corner of house).  Other than those 2 times, it is actually better than the radio because the sound is clearer (although, obviously, delayed a minute or two).

They both use the same router so I don't get it.

As far as black outs go on the internet, a lot of that is up to the team and radio station.  i.e. all Pro Leagues won't allow games to be broadcast online and I think 620 blocks BADger streams, but MU has always had agreements in place to ensure the local station broadcast the game online going back to WISN.

No idea if the principle holds true to the iPhone but I would love to know if anyone tries on Saturday.

Did anyone try this?

Bump...

I downloaded the app, but it kept freezing on me as soon as I tuned to 540AM.  It continued doing it until Monday, so I don't think the app failure had anything to do with the game.

Anyone else?  Otherwise, I'll try again tomorrow night and report back.

I haven't gotten it yet, just waiting to hear how it works from others...so I'll await your report.

I have it downloaded too, but had the same problem.  I've had to delete and reinstall several times.  Since Sunday I've always made sure I change it back to the national feed before exiting.  It's been fine since I started doing that.  I listened to Buzz's show on Monday without a problem.  It was in a non-working state on Saturday, so I just watched on the computer.  (I hadn't figured out the delete/reinstall thing yet.)  I assume it will work because if they stream it online, they most likely will stream it on the iphone.  I think the Bucks and Brewers don't stream on the 620 site because they have other contracts prohibiting it.  The MU games have always streamed online.

Good to here I am not the only one having problems with this App.  I too cannot get 540 to work.  I will try to reinstall and see if I can get it to work....This is the first App. I have ever had a problem with.

I used Fstream last season, and it worked. I might have only listened to the postgame show now that I think about it.

For the 45 seconds I was able to get a decent signal in the BC tonight, I heard Homer's voice calling the game, so the App does work for MU Basketball.  Of course, it's on about a 90 second delay, which made it really weird watching an empty court during a timeout and listening to Homer give the play-by-play.

So there you have it.  Hopefully you guys with iPhones find some benefit in me talking to myself.
