I went to the Lakers-Clippers opener last night...ring ceremony and such. Got some chants going for Steve Novak to get into the game, to no avail. Novak looked good in warm-ups at least.
However, did get to see Tex Winter who was about 7 rows in front of us. They did the ring ceremony before the game for all staff and players. During the intermission of the 4th quarter, Tex was walked out there with 3 lovely Laker girls to get his ring. Standing ovation from the crowd. He looked pretty good considering he suffered a stroke last year. I'm not sure who was with him (his son?) but when they returned to their seats, he opened up the box that contained the ring to show us. Very cool.

Novak will see very little playing time unless Clipers get riddled with injuries.
With the game on TNT, you should have stood up and waved to all your Scoop brothers and sisters. I'm certain some (EAT, in particular) would like to see what your heine looks like. Seems like Steve is in for some serious pine time again this season. He looked good in his warm-ups, though.

Unfortunate. He got into a number of games last year so I was hopeful he would get in last night. It will be likely the only NBA game I go to all season as the game is very dull in my opinion.
Wasn't Steve a free agent?
You would think he would have gone someplace else if he didn't see a good opportunity for minutes in LA.
well, except for the fact that he is a role player, on a bad team, in a year where money is VERY tight.
Hell, Ramon Sessions signed basically for peanuts. 2 years ago he's have gotten 5 mil a year.
At the M-Club induction, Steve said that he hadn't accepted the Clippers offer at that point as he was seeing what else he could get around the league - more specifically the Bucks.
He was very certain at that point though he'd return to the Clippers.

Steve had said in interviews that he prefered to stay in the Western Conference becasue it was more suited for his type of game.

it's not like his phone was ringing off the hook. If he can't get on the court with the Clippers, there are not many teams he could get time with.
Pretty nice that Novak will make a cool million from the Clippers this year. Not bad for a kid just four years out of college. I hope he's banked some of the approximately $3 million he's made (including this year's salary).
It would take most of us on this board quite a few years to make a million, so I wouldn't feel too sorry for Steve.
Chicos...Napolean has a pretty good run back in the day, just stay away from the arsenic!
Some posts removed. You'll notice a certain individual is absent for a week.. or so. Continue on with the previously schedule topic.
Thanks. I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought a line was crossed.

Speaking of banking some of his money...(Discussion derailment in progress) Anyone else read the article about Antoine Walker being out of money despite his lofty career earnings?

Let's hope Novak's entourage is not quite so deep.

Well, to quote the great Patrick Ewing "We make a lot of money because we spend a lot of money".

Exactly. Thanks for posting that. I know it would be great to spend that money, but hopefully a guy like Steve - who will never make that kind of money and is unlikely to have a particularly long career or make much more than the minimum - can come away from the experience with $500,000 or $1 million put away. While that is not "never have to work again" kind of money, having a million socked away sure could help a person live a comfortable life while working.
He played plenty last year and this year is only a few games old so lets not assume he won't see the court.
I doubt he has a mill in the bank right now. That 3 mill was before taxes right?
I'm sure he baught a nice ring, paid for his wedding himself, at least two cars and a house in the last three years. Not to mention if he decided to do something nice for his parents, dontaition to MU, and few nice suits. 100% sure he won't be the next Walker though.
