On this week's Marquette Basketball Weekly, we're doing a segment revolving around the biggest questions heading into the 2009-10 MBB season. We can't tell you much more than that, but I would love as many responses as possible.
So I simply ask, what are your three biggest questions heading into the season?
I can only think of 2 big ones at the moment:
1. Does Buycks know enough to run point or will we be stuck with Acker all year?
2. Will DJO/Buycks/Acker/Cubillan step up enough that we'll be able to run 2 guards w/ 2 backups to give them breaks, or will we be stuck running 4 forwards?
Will Chris Otule develop into a decent BE center, or are we going to have to play undersized once again?
1) Will the 7'0" walk-on make the team?
2) Will Frozena ever have a chance to start?
3) Is Vander Blue going to sign with MU?
;)
1. We know Lazar is an amazing player but can he be the leader that we need him to be by being able to lead this young team into battle against the Big East competition?
2. I agree with the Buycks question.
3. Can Maymon be as dominant on the college level as he was on the high school level?
Can Buzz draw up last minute plays the way Layer did for him last season?
1) Who is going to score besides Lazar?
2) Who is going to rebound besides Lazar?
3) Who is worthy of starting in the Big East besides Lazar?
I agree with Wegzryn that Lazar is the only unquestioned player and it will be interesting to see who can fill the void in the post with Lazar playing more of a 3. I question our ability to run the high up-tempo offense we have run with out the speed and dribble penetration on our current team.
Will we have five healthy players left by the time the first game comes around?
When are we going to get our nickname back!?!?
1. Can Buzz coach?
2. Can Lazar lift his game to First Team Big East typle levels?
3. Aside from Lazar, which other player will step up to be our next best player?
That first question is not intended to be a criticism of Buzz. I think he did a nice job last year with a talented and experienced team. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he does this year.
1) What the heck is the Big East Network?
2) Did Jimmy Butler hit his ceiling last year or will he take it to the next level?
3) Why is there still no radio affiliate in the Chicago area?
At which games will we get free tshirts?
At which games will we get a bobblehead and whose bobblehead will it be?
Do we have a fighting chance to beat MSOE?
1. When will the Warrior nickname come back?
2. When will Avenue Commons get approved?
3. When will Marquette have a football team again?
What players (other than lazar) will make a notable impact right away?
Other than inexperience what is our biggest weakness?
If the season started today, what would be the starting line-up?
Buzz is known as a skill development coach. In terms of skills of the current players:
1) In HS Maymon was an inside beast. Since he's been on campus, I've seen him listed anywhere from the 2 to the 4. Based on current skill set, what is Maymon on the NCAA level as a freshman?
2) Last year's team had two great, experienced wing players. Can you compare the strengths/skill sets of Joseph Fulce, Erik Williams, Jimmy Butler and Maymon as it relates to creating offense?
3) Last year Dominic James helped to set a defensive tone by pushing opposing point guards away from the center of the floor, cutting off passing lanes, etc. Based on what you've seen in practice, who will set the defensive tone for the team this year?
