Any one know where Fulce stands with his injury/come back?
Word has been he's progressing nicely and is back near 100%. He could be a big surprise if he can keep that knee healthy.

Nice . . . probably the only potential optimistic/good news we've heard around here in about two weeks. It has been brutal and it's only September! I'm hoping this changes quickly. A commitment from a outstanding prospect for 2010 would sure help about now.
Related: Does anyone know if JC had surgery this week? If so and when? I'd like to know the extent of the damage -- I assume these types of injuries vary in their severity and consequently in their healing time and prognosis for playing again at a high level? Again, just hoping for rays of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy time.

A healthy Fulce would be great to see in our frontcourt this year. A five man rotation of Hayward, Butler, Fulce, Maymon, and Williams at the forward positions (and center when necessary) could take some pressure away from our now thin backcourt.

This will be a forward-dominated team as opposed to the guard-oriented teams of the past 4 seasons. I suspect we'll see a PG and four forwards at times.
Do people think that Cubillan can give us anything?
I'm kinda missing Scott Christopherson.

Cubes used to give us decent defense and a good outside shot... hopefully with two healthy shoulders and a summer to relearn his shot he can come off the bench and spot up for a few points per game.

I'm not banking much on Cubes, though I'd imagine we'll see him out there more than we did last year between not having the same level/depth of backcourt players and wanting more team leaders on the court.
I'd also think we'll see Butler as more of the 2/3 he was originally projected at as opposed to the 3/4 he played last year. I seem to recall the few outside shots he took in games were rather atrocious (he's listed at 42% from 3 in juco) so we'll see what happens there.
I really feel that Butler is going to take a hugh leap in his game this year. He spent most of last season trying not to screw up. Most of his offense came from offensive rebounding. I expect a much more expanded game this year.
Butler was described as a 2/3, and Fulce was seen as a poor man's Shaun Marion, far more athletic than JB, a better finisher, faster. If he gets back to 90% of that, it will be a huge benefit. I agree about the 1 guard, 4 forward sets. I have always thought this is better than the 4 guard, 1 forward sets we have seen in the past.
Missing Christopherson??? You kidding me? He had the body/build of a D-3 player and his speed was terrible. MU could pick up a walk-on that offered more upside than he did.
Ful just posted a promo vid for Marquette Madness.. he throws down a jam, then says, "last year we just had a dunk fest... this year it's a dunk CONTEST.. and I'm gonna win...". A healthy Joe Fulce will do wonders for this team.

To say the same thing differently, Buzz has clearly said--and the players he has been bringing in fit this--that he wants long, athletic players, of the Mizzou type. Christopherson could've never kept up with this group. He would've been Roseboro, without the height, and look how long he lasted.

I just want to know who is going to hit down the open shots on this team. I said it somewhat kiddingly because if Cubillan is hurt, I'm concerned again about their outside shooting. I don't know...is DJO or Buycks a shooter? Because the thought of Butler playing the 2 scares the hell out of me. Brick city.

He did not look very athletic, but I suspect he will be a good player at Iowa St.
giving our current guard situation we could use him this year.
with the hell Acker is taking on this board i could only imagine how merciless the posters would be on Christopherson. Acker is 10X the player Scott will ever be. Scott was poor mans Anglavar and Anglavar was a low to mid D1 player
If Christopherson is like Anglavar, that is exactly why I will miss him. Anglavar didn't have starting talent, but could come off the bench and hit a few threes when needed. That is precisely the role that Christopherson would play on this team...and I don't know who fills that now.

First off both Buycks and DJO can shoot.
2nd...Its interesting that you are worried about Butler's shooting. I spent most of last year begging for him to shoot more.
He was a good shooter in JC and has a great form on his shot.
Just because he didn't take many jumpers last year doesn't mean he can't make them.
My concern about him at the 2 is his ability to defend small quick players in space.
Offensively I think he will be fine.
Thank you for your response MuMark. I am just tired of watching Marquette teams that can't consistently hit open jumpers. That's the main reason the Big Three are likely not going to be in the NBA anytime soon. Hopefully we have the people in place that can do that now.

I think that's the role Cubes was originally supposed to fill. Obviously his shoulder injuries submarined his 3-point% over the last couple years but I think there's still hope that he'll recover and provide a legit long-range threat this year.
