Title: For BMA or anyone who knows
Post by: wadesworld on September 05, 2009, 01:47:41 PM
Just looking through Rivals 2010 Top 150 these are the players who list interest in Marquette:
#7 Cory Joseph (huge list of schools)
#13 Terrence Jones (long list of schools)
#15 Tony Mitchell (fairly long list of schools)
#21 Doron Lamb (long list of schools)
#22 Vander Blue (list is long but we know it's down to 5)
#23 Dwight Powell (fairly short list of schools)
#38 Michael Cobbins (list of 6 schools)
#45 Justin Coleman (list of 8 schools)
#67 Jayvaughn Pinkston (fairly long list of schools)
#68 Jeremy Lamb (fairly long list of schools)
#87 Carlson Derosier (list of 3 schools)
#99 James Johnson (fairly long list of schools)
#105 Reggie Smith (list of 6 schools)
#107 JJ Moore (fairly long list of schools)
#118 Maurice Walker (list of 6 schools)
#123 Shane Southwell (long list of schools)
(They still have #126 Aaron Bowen with a list of 5 other schools)
#133 Victor Oladipo (long list of schools but we're 1 of 6 listed as medium interest instead of low interest)
#134 Devon Collier (huge list of schools)
#139 Nick Shepherd (list of 8 schools)

My question is how many of these players are we truly in on and have a real chance of landing?  My guess is that a lot of these lists are very outdated, considering they still have a long lists of schools for Blue, etc.  How many have dropped us from their list?  Are there any other players interested in us that aren't on the list?

On Scout they only have about 5 top 100 players listed as interested in Marquette.

Vander Blue has narrowed his choice to two schools:  Marquette and Wisconsin

Nobody really knows who we have a legit shot with, but listed below are the players I think we are most involved with.

#7 Cory Joseph (huge list of schools)
#22 Vander Blue (list is long but we know it's down to 5)
#38 Michael Cobbins (list of 6 schools)
#45 Justin Coleman (list of 8 schools) (Likely going Juco)
#67 Jayvaughn Pinkston (fairly long list of schools)
#68 Jeremy Lamb (fairly long list of schools)
#87 Carson Desrosier (list of 3 schools)
#107 JJ Moore (fairly long list of schools)
#118 Maurice Walker (list of 6 schools)

I would think we will fill out our 2010 class with one or two of these players.

"UCLA and Arizona were just eliminated from the race for Vander Blue, the guard from Madison (Wisc.) Memorial. The word is that he'll stay close to home."

UCLA Scout site reported it. If that's the case I love our chances.

#22, Vander Blue.  I like how that sounds.

Interesting...thanks.  UCLA doesn't surprise me.....not his style of play.  UA surprises me. What about Florida?

Some of those like Powell and Johnson eliminated MU awhile ago, the list just hasnt been updated.  The others it's tough to say at this point.

For the most part I'd agree with Buzz4Prez's list, though I'd add Southwell there as well.

I have been wondering about Florida for a bit now, the people from UCLA and Arizona say they were eliminated because he wanted to play close to home, however Florida still hasn't officially been eliminated, so it really doesn't make sense.

still I dont see him going to Florida because they have some fantastic guards coming in over the next few years that Blue would play behind.

I'd feel a lot better about our chances if it were MU and one of the three out of state schools.  If we were going against a school like Arizona, we'd always be the "home" school...and that helps.  Now we are locked in a 50/50 battle with a local program of essentially similar stature - especially for a kid from Madison.

I just hope for his sake that he makes a smart decision for him.

He will....he's going to UW-Madison.  If he picks MU...it will also be a smart decision.  My gut says he goes with Bo Ryan.

Yeah, the fact that the school he initially chose is one of the finalists is not a good sign.

Anytime you battle for a top 30 recruit it will be tough.  MU and WI have many positives.  He can't go wrong with any choice but MU is the better fit. ;D

Once you decommit, you must quit.

Welcome to MU, Vander. You'll be the next great Warrior guard.

Hope you are right, would love to see the Badger fans go crazy, but I think he stays in Madison.

For what it's worth, Mark Miller is saying all 5 schools are still being considered by Blue.  I'll take Miller's words on this.

FWIW Vander Blue was wearing an MU shirt at the Madison Memorial football game on Friday night.  Obviously doesn't mean he's coming here, but can't really hurt.  If he was too worried about the amount of criticism he'd get from the people in Madison I doubt he'd be wearing that to a high school football game.

What pair of boxers \ thong was he wearing....that's the true indicator.

Maybe it was just a gift given to him by his buddy J-May. When I was in HS eons ago, among the many MU t-shirts and sweatshirts I owned, I had a couple Georgetown  shirts that I got from my brother who was attending grad school there at the time. So I wouldn't read into what Vander was wearing at the football game too much.

But did you live in DC and were you one of the top 25 recruits in the nation?  I'm not saying he's coming to Marquette because of it, but I think there's a bit of a difference between your average guy wearing an MU t-shirt to a football game and a guy who (supposedly) is down to UW-Madison and MU wearing an MU t-shirt to a football game in Madison.

The report from UCLA was incorrect, he isn't down to just two schools.

Further,  he's a 17 year old kid.  Maybe the t-shirt means something, maybe it was the only clean thing he had that day, maybe he just felt like tweaking the home crowd.  Looking for meaning in a clothing choice is a bit much.

Agreed...waste of time to think it means anything.

There were photos of Iman Shumpert in MU stuff, and MU swag all around his house. We know how that ended...

Maybe he wanted to stand out in a crowd of green and white?
