Title: Two months after getting Pitt's Academic Acheivement Award...
Post by: ecompt on August 29, 2009, 10:54:13 PM
small forward Gilbert Brown has been suspended for the fall semester due to academic problems. He will miss (at least) Pitt's first 11 games.

I guess high academic achievement at Pitt apparently still isn't good enough to be eligible to play?  Anyway, cue some good Pitt jokes since we all love their fans so much...

Hard for me to picture any one named Gilbert Brown as a "small" anything ;D

Pitt has an Academic Achievement Award?!  Awesome.  I look forward to Pitino receiving his "Fidelity and Pro-Life Award."

Really?  You are bagging on Pitt as an Academic Institution?

because, I wouldn't.

Yeah...I was kind of thinking the same thing.  They are ranked ahead of MU in the USN&WR rankings.

It wasn't meant as a dig at the entire school so much as their thuggy, non-graduating, basketball and football programs.  And those rankings, they're not that relevant.

They aren't relevant in that it means that Pitt for sure gives you a better education than MU, but they do put schools in general categories that are by and large accurate.

So, apparently most here missed the irony (and hence, I believe, the reason for Lab's comment)....

...redshirt sophomore Gilbert Brown received the team's Academic Excellence Award for his success in the classroom.

Pittsburgh has suspended forward Gilbert Brown from the men's basketball team for the fall semester because of academic reasons...

So, apparently his achievement was going to classes regularly.  To bad he spent the entire time in the classroom updating his facebook status...

oh I understood the irony... just the shot at Pitt's overall academic experience was a little unfounded ;)

Gilbert might be up next to win the Montgomery Burns award for Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Excellence.
