Sheesh...
I like that the MAAC teams are always the home team.
i like this, another early opportunity to show this young team what real competition looks like, and for Marquette to prepare for the BE season
I was going to complain about not being the primetime game, but 2pm on Thanksgiving is pretty good, right?

Other than that pesky Lions v. Packers game. :-\
Well who wants to watch the poorest football game on earth... Marquette v Xavier wins in a land slide
as a die hard packer fan, I must say I will watch the Marquette game that day.
I'm curious about when MU's second/Friday match-up will be. Looking at the bracket, it appears that the winner of the MU-X game will play at noon on Friday, drawing the winner of the Creighton-Michigan game. Loser of Thursday's match-up will play the loser of the Creighton-Michigan game at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Is my assumption correct? Really want to know, because we have already booked air and hotel at Disney in anticipation of seeing Thursday and Friday MU games. Can't stay for Sunday. Thanks for the help.
As I student at Creighton and a long time MU fan, I really hope to see a second round matchup between the two schools. They used to play a lot before Crean and I'd always like to see a renewed Jesuit rivalry.
Playing Xavier and Creighton back-to-back will bring back a lot of memories of the Al days. We always played the Midwest Catholic schools back then.

we already have one: Georgetown ;)
but seriously, I like it too.
With Seattle u's program coming back, that's another Jesuit school.
I just wish they come to the west coast and play Santa Clara, Usf, the zags or lmu.
In looking at the Creighton / MU head-to-head series, it looks at though O'Neill is the one that cut it off...only to make a short reappearance during the late 90s.

I was actually unaware that they have played that often.
Should be a good game between the Warriors and the Muskateers. God will definitely be watching.

Does Xavier have a lot of talent returning? How should we feel about this draw?
Looking ahead, Michigan is completely overrated because they beat an overrated UCLA team and played the game of their lives AT HOME, early in the season, and beat Duke last year. I'm sure we would be bragging about beating Duke too, but it should not necessarily prove much. They have Manny Harris and some shooters, but are getting way too much love in my opinion. Creighton always has a good program. Hopefully we have a better tourney than last year..

If we beat Duke in a meaningless pre-conference game, we'd hang a banner from the ceiling of the Bradley Center.

haha. True, but I guess we know that beating Duke before Jan 1 does not mean you have a really elite team.

Looks like Xavier is picked around 15 in most of the preseason top 25s I've found. I don't know if Michigan should really be up at 11 like they are in Katz's, but at worst they're an NCAA team, which should mean plenty of challenge for us (if we were to face them).

You are really underestimating Michigan. Manny Harris and Deshaun Simms are really good. They have their whole team back, plus some good additions. They might be the team to beat in the Old Spice.

The system that Beilein runs is a very difficult one to defend...especially when you don't have much time to prepare. That guy can flat out coach and now that he has more of his guys in place, Michigan is going to be a tough match-up for teams all year long.

Bringing up an interesting subject: We've never seen Buzz coach a team comprised of his own guys, and nobody has ever seen our team play before. If we're any good we could cause some serious preparation problems in the early going this season.

Anyone from the board plan to go there live?
Strongly considering going despite it being Turkey day.

I have aready booked a Disney hotel and the flight. Can only stay for Thursday and Friday games. I am assuming that MU will play the winner or loser of the Michigan-Creighton game on Friday at either Noon or 2:30. Tickets go on sale August 17.
I won't go there...but the Paradise Jam tournament on St. Thomas in 2010 is intriguing.

Good news is the Packers game should be over by halftime...or there's always Thansgiving buffalo wings for the purist.
I follow Xavier very closely because a buddy of mine from high school plays for them (Andrew Taylor) and another high school classmate just finished a great senior season for them (BJ Raymond). In my opinion this will be a very challenging game for a young and inexperienced MU team. Here's what I know about Xavier's players...
Terrell Holloway- A solid pure point guard who knows how to run the team.
Dante Jackson- A 6'5 scoring guard.
Jordan Crawford- Solid freshman season at Indiana then sat out last year. Extremely athletic as shown by his dunking on Lebron.
Brad Redford- I love this kid, he's got to be one of the best shooters in college ball, he's got well beyond NBA range, just watch his youtube clips.
Jamel McLean- Athletic big man, loves to throw it down.
Kenny Frease- Skilled 7 footer with 3 point range.
Jason Love- Big man who is tough around the basket.
Kenny Frease doesn't move his arms when he runs down the court. It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine is harassed by the woman that doesn't move her arms either.
He is talented but sometime seems to look really uncomfortable on the floor.
And Raquel Welch doesn't move her arms when she does a song and dance.

Hope to see you there. I have a permission slip from wife to attend, but I am not holding her to it.
I aleady booked my trip to take my wife and 4 kids to see Mickey and MU. The MU games will be a nice break from chasing 2 year old twins around DisneyWorld.

I think that Jordan Crawford will be their best player by far. Jason love is a good big man. Frease has a lot of potential, but he is very stiff and slow, and he rarely shoots from outside. Holloway had an off year last year, but it was his first and maybe he will improve. They actually benched him often to have a shooting guard (Jackson) take over at the point because Holloway was coughing up the ball too often. Redford can really shoot from long range, but he is small and if someone stays in his face, they can make him disappear offensively. But you can't leave him alone for a moment with the ball. You don't have to worry about him driving to the basket. At the same time, he is weak defensively. McLean is their best athlete and can dunk if he gets to the basket, but he shoots about 46.5% from the free throw line. He might be the worst free throw shooter you have ever seen. Dante Jackson is an average player, IMO. Lots of Xavier fans consider him a defensive stopper.
They also have a freshman who was academically ineligible last year and is expected to compete for pg duties. His name is Mark Lyons, and he is a very good athlete and defender. He might be a little rough with his decision making and he is not a good outside shot.
They have a couple other forwards who will probably be relegated to the bench in case everyone else breaks a bone simultaneously.
Their coach is new and inexperienced. That might be the biggest question of all with the Muskies.

Don't forget in additoin to all the talent Xavier has coming back, they have that dude that dunked on LeBron in the summer camp. He was redshirting last year after transferring away from Indiana before Crean got to coach him.

I thought there coahc made some mistakes out there. Buzz definately out coached him.
i dont think Crawford was that good at all. sure he had a bad game but i am also not that impressed with what I saw. he way over dribbled and had his head down the whole time
Congrats on the big win! Take down Michigan today! Keep making the big east proud!
