GoMarquette.com To Release Men's Basketball Non-League Schedule

Beginning on Monday, July 13 GoMarquette.com will announce the non-conference portion of its 2009-10 men's basketball schedule.

"One opponent will be featured each day from July 13-17 and July 20-24. Monday's release will include the date for the team's lone exhibition and the regular-season opener at the Bradley Center."

This seems like an odd way to reveal your pre-conference schedule - I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to find out the date and time of the North Central Idaho Valley State game.

Well, duh.  If they announce all of the OOC games at once, especially the hot-ticket North Central Idaho Valley State game, they'd clog all the phone lines at Ticketmaster.

(I refuse to use teal.)

It's dumb and annoying.  Just release the entire schedule.  I guess they think they can have some sort of build up with each new opponent.

I'm hoping that they'll release the "buy" games on one day, the NC State date on another and, maybe another prominent name on another. I can't imagine they'd release these buy games one day at a time.

MARQUETTE TO PLAY CARDINAL STRITCH ON NOV 14!!!
MARQUETTE TO PLAY SEATTLE ON NOV 18!!

Of course, these are many of the same people who thought we'd all love the idea of "Gold."

I hope Associate Athletics Director Craig Pintens steps up to a podium to announce them similar to David Stern in the NBA Draft.

With the first game in the 2009-2010 Men's College Basketball Season, the Marquette Golden Eagles will play Cardinal Stritch out of Wisconsin.

For the second round, Assistant Director of Marketing Brian Bowsher should take over the duties ala Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver.

I think Pintens would be up for both rounds.

This is directly from Tom Crean's book: The Art of Shameless Self-Promotion".  It's the chapter after "How to Display a Banner for any Accomplishment."

The announcements should also be made in front of a crowd of drunken hometown fans like the NFL draft.  :P

It's a good way for the gomarquette.com website to get more clicks per day.  To quote the great philospher Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, "It's all about the Benjamins."

I emailed Broeker to ask him why they did it this way, and that was the summary of his response.  They're doing it to try and drive traffic to the website.  Which reminds me that I should probably update the CS post.
