No longer will the selection committee use a team's record in its last 12 games as a factor in determining whether it belongs in the tournament.
That shriek of joy you just heard was Tom Crean celebrating in Bloomington.

I thought the shriek was from TC's tanning bed, as a light bulb was burnt out.
I think the shreik of frustration occured when one of his brothers-in-law stopped sodomizing him.

And just like that, Florida Gulf Coast is no longer on the 2011 IU schedule.

Good, they never should have in the first place. Some teams were severely disadvantaged by this simply because of who they lined up against. Memphis & Gonazaga plays their last 12 against cream puffs while teams in the Big East and elsewhere might have to play 7 or 8 games against ranked teams in that last 12, often times playing very well but barely losing.
I'm glad they got rid of it.

That's too bad since next year we might suck it early to a 9-8 record only to wise up and finish on a nice 8-4 clip to get to 17-12 with a run in NYC getting us in the Tournament.
Am I right to still assume they'll take into account how well a team is playing at the end of the year, and that will weight more heavily than how they started the year? It sounds like they're just getting the 12 game number out of the picture.

I would have to think so. If a team is poor at the beginning but pulls it together near the end because the improved throughout the year they won't look back as heavily on who they lost to at the beginning as compared to who they were beating and losing at the end of the year. It just seems too rigid-the 12 game thing-to determine seatings in a subjective matter (The BE vs. Memphis and CUSA example was right on).
.. Could have equalized the last 12 game stat with some sort of SOS factor.
Guess I'm moderately sad to see it go. I don't like to see teams punished with the last 12, but they should be rewarded if they are on fire versus decent competition.
