Title: Scheduling Question
Post by: ErickJD08 on May 28, 2009, 06:30:54 PM
Does anyone think MU will ever play Indiana?  How far in advance are nonconferences games scheduled?  I think someone would be interested in hosting it for good advertising money.  Odds... thoughts...

as long as Crean and Buzz are the coaches at the schools, I'll say zero percent chance of this happening.

I doubt the Indiana fans will care very much at all about playing Marquette beyond the fact that it would be a game against a team from another major conference.  Honestly, I don't know how much more I would care either.  It would have been fun to see the players Crean coached go against him.  It would be fun to see how the Marquette crowd would re-act to Crean's return to the BC, but otherwise not so much.

Since UW is a Big Ten team, I would imagine that the AD would have to have a very compelling reason to play another Big Ten team in order to have a balanced schedule.  I think, with our big Chicago alumni base, that the only Big Ten matchup which would be extraordinarily lucrative is a series against Illinois.  It would be most fun over Christmas break at the United Center as a "neutral court" game to give our team and school face time in Chicago and give Buzz a talking point when recruiting kids out of Chicago.

I would love an Illinois game... A TON of annoying Illini fans.

I will say this much, you will never see a scheduled MU v. Indiana game. However, if they are both good enough to make the NCAA's I wouldn't doubt that the committee would create that matchup in a heartbeat... they love those situations.

I'd bet that we will face Indiana in the NCAA tourney before we schedule them intentionally.

OR in a pre-season tourney.

Don't count out the possibility of both programs rising to the point that a matchup MAY be inevitable, as the networks love subplots and hot teams.

u of i vs. mu would be a fun match-up...as it would have been for the past 10+ yrs.  weber from milwaukee area, grew up watching al mcguire's teams, etc.  the hold-up is all the contractual stuff these days with regards to teams, conferences, tv, yadda, yadda, yadda.
