A baby for Buzz
Coach Buzz Williams and his wife Corey welcomed a new member to the family on Monday.
Addyson Reese, weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces, was born at 12:44 this afternoon. She's the couple's fourth child, joining Zera, Calvin and Mason.
Baby and mother are said to be doing well.
Also, Jerel McNeal will now be throwing out the first pitch on June 1 at U.S. Cellular Field prior to the Chicago White Sox's game against the Oakland A's.
McNeal had to change the game because of a workout for an NBA team. June 1 also just so happens to be McNeal's 22nd birthday.

Awesome. I was wondering over the weekend when we would hear something. Congrats to the Williams family!

That's awesome. A highlight, I'm sure, for a kid from the South Side. I hope he returns to throw out many more first pitches during a long NBA career.
Exciting! Congrats to Buzz and Corey! Happy birthday, Addyson!

And after having played at Providence this year he should be able to handle Sox Park.

I didn't know I shared a birthday with Jerel. I knew there was something I liked about him! (Although I have to admit it is a wash given the fact that he is apparently a Sox fan.)
Oh yeah, and congratulations to Buzz and family. Sorry, a little distracted with the June 1 birthday thing.
With the baby coming during a quiet period clearly Buzz has his priorities in order......... ;)

I believe Buzz has said this is the first time that things have lined up that way.
Congrats Buzz and family.

What the hell kind of name is Addyson? Why do people feel compelled to invent names? It's stupid.
put an M in front of the name and I'm not a happy dude... but I guess it is his kid ;)

Why do you care? Really. Does it bother you at night, that people choose to give kids unusual names. I'm 100% serious. I want to know your issue with it.
Please enlighten me.

How about you do some fact checking. Addyson as a name comes from the Old English language meaning it is at least 800 years old, not some recent invention by Buzz. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it's new.

What's the etymology of your name?
I'd venture to guess that sometime somewhere somebody invented it.
And somebody else felt compelled to call it stupid.
Avenue named his boys Tom, Dick and Harry Commons.
Congrats to the Williams family! I am amazed he found time to do something other than count touches in the paint.

Aren't all names "invented' including John, Robert, Sally, or Lemonjello? Someone had to invent them at some point...right?

Right on BMA, it is Old English.
According to the Social Security records, Addison was the 12th most popular girl's name last year. (The spelling variation chosen by Coach and Mrs. Williams ranks 240th.) Buzz said earlier that she would be known as "Addy," so the spelling makes perfect sense.
I, for one, think it's cute. I know this board can be brutal... but jeez, this kid's not even 24 hours old!
I am naming my next kid Marijuana Pepsi (http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/40874017.html)

Ethnic names are very popular at present.
I've always been partial to the name Sneakers O'Toole.
Congrats to Buzz and family!!

That's just another variation of "Mary Jane".

At least its "Addyson" and not "Addison"

I think Addyson/Addison (Addy) is both pretty and mainstream. What bugs me is when Tom and Sue feel the need to make some sort of a "statement" and name their kid Safari, Priam, Northern, Zevon or some other nonsense name. The kids end up paying for their parent's oddball choices as they are laughed at and mocked from grade school on. If parents feel the need to show their "creativity" in this way why don't they just change their own names to something bizarre and leave their kids out of it?
Glad they didn't spell it "adison". That's a little too red.

No, it does not bother me at night. This is America and people can name their kid(s) whatever they please. Just because the Dad is a guy I like and the coach of my alma mater's basketball team doesn't mean I'm not gonna say I think its stupid, because in my humble opinion it is.
My issue with it is summed up best here: http://www.slate.com/id/2116505/ (http://www.slate.com/id/2116505/)
I hope you found that enlightening.

Addison I get. Addyson is contrived.
Orangejello and Lemonjello.
that is all.
Henry Sugar, are you from Beloit? I know of someone from Beloit named Marijuana Pepsi. Her mom said that they were her (her mom's) two favorite things. The girl is now a teacher who goes by Mary. I guess an 800 yr. old Old English name isn't so bad after all. Congratulations Coach Buzz...
The original post on Marijuana Pepsi contains a link to a JSOnline story about the teacher from Beloit. I read about her on the Freakonomics blog.

Interesting article, but it hardly suggests "Addyson" is a "stupid" name.
All that article would theorize, is that since Buzz is in the upper .1% of incomes in the US, Addyson is just a new "high-end" name, the rest of us schlubs will be naming our daughters Addyson in 10 years.

If I have
another daughter in 10 years, I'll be naming her "Oops."
I see that my youngest daughter has one of the names they're "predicting" to be a top name in 2015. I guess that makes me "high-end." Who knew?!!

Likewise, scoring in the paint is what it's all about. I'm just relieved the kid is not named Creaniel or Creansicle.

Good one! It's lines like this that keep me coming back to this board. Remember, March Madness is an excellent time for a vasectomy...
Congratulations to Buzz and Corey -
I love the name they picked out!! Leave it to a man to be critical of such a cute name ;)

Agreed. Addyson is a fine name.
It could be worse. They could have named her Ilwaukee. ;)
With a name like Williams, you almost have to go with a unique first name. I also think talking about the names of infants is a little bit too much.
Ilwaukee would be a better name that Addyson, but Arquette would be the best.
Let's all pitch in and buy him a shower gift. How about this:

I love it. I want one too! All my Warrior stuff is getting pretty worn out.
My older sister is a Labor and Delivery Nurse over at Columbia and told me this morning that she was present at Addyson's birth. She's not a hoops or MU fan (her two oldest kids attend that institution near our state capital that shall remain nameless), but made it a point to tell me that Buzz and Corey were two of the nicest people she's ever met at her job. She says "I see why you like him, he seems so genuine." I thought that was so cool, plus my sister just gained some serious coolness points in my book!
Whoa .. so the first person who might have held Addyson was a UW fan? Talk about original sin!

Negative. My sis has no allegience either way. Her kids attend Madison, but her husband and all 4 of her brothers are all MU grads (myself included). She falls into the group of people who neither cheer nor root against either school. My nephew on the other hand......well, I don't really like to talk about him! lol
