Men's Basketball Adds Five More Graduates
The Marquette University men's basketball program added five more graduates Sunday afternoon when Trend Blackledge, Dwight Burke, Dominic James, Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal officially received their diplomas at the commencement ceremonies.

MU can be criticized for a lot of things but they do make sure their players graduate. I know the positioning of "every one who has completed their eligibility" takes a few out of the mix but still a good result, wonder who the 2 are since 1990 that did not get their degrees per the story. Very happy to see Blackledge stayed around and finished his degree.
one was reported to be Hutchins not sure on the other.
Does DWade count as one?
Trend's graduation is huge.
The fact that the program remained committed to getting him his degree, even after his playing days were over, is impressive. According to everything we read at the time of his commitment and arrival on campus, his academics were in bad shape. Good for him that he stuck it out.

Was just going to post something along those lines. Even though his hoops career was unremarkable, he did work his butt off to get a college degree.
Congrats Trend!

Supposedly it was Hutch and Damon Key.
My Freshman Year at MU (1998) I remember seeing camera crews at Cudahy filming Hutch. They were doing a story about him staying at MU to finish his degree. I guess I assumed he did finish it, maybe not...

As someone who was enrolled in undergrad classes at MU again this year and spent quite a bit of time at the library, I would see Trend there often. I assume he still had access to some of the academic resources in the Al, but the guy was definitely working very, very hard on his own this past year.
Great to see for him. Unlike what some of our friends may think to the west, earning a college degree, particularly from a top 100 academic institution like Marquette, is no small accomplishment. I wish him well in whereever life takes him.
It was cool to see these guys walk across the stage yesterday. Best of luck to all of them.
Not to wax poetic, though I am sure my wife would like me to wax something, but it really does warm the cockles of my heart to know that Marquette really cares about her players. I remember in 1996 going to Cincinnati and watching all the non-NBA former Bearcats sitting on the corner drinking beer, without many prospects and without a degree. Congratulations to all of the new Warrior grads.
