Title: OT: Miss America Tonight, 7pm
Post by: mu_hilltopper on January 29, 2007, 01:54:07 PM
"Miss America" is on tonight, CMT, 7pm (cst).

Why would you care?

Because MU's own, Meghan Coffey, a Dance Team Intensity girl from last year, is Miss Wisconsin.

As Kramer once said..."they're never in contention."

Outide of the opening number, poor Meghan surely won't be seen on camera tonight.

She kinda looks like the red-haired chick from CSI.

as bad as the eagle is, at least 1) she's still good looking and 2) she's not wearing a UW outfit.

In a serious of laughable and disturbing complaints about the mascot, I recall several people -- perhaps even some on this board -- saying one of the biggest problems was that it wasn't "fierce" enough. I don't even know where to start on that one. It's like suggesting Jeffrey Dahmer was a bad neighbor because he played his music too loud. Even furthering the ridiculousness of the lack of "fierceness" accusations,  the administration had the audacity to claim, after changing the mascot, that it "heard" what fans were saying!! Good LORD!!!

complaints about the mascot

Have you finally given up posting on any other topic?

Seriously.  I've read through your last 25 posts:
http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?action=profile;u=143;sa=showPosts

These 25 posts cover a period from January 12th through today--a periord that includes our wins over WVU, Lousville, Pitt, Seton Hall and USF.

Here's how your posts sort out in terms of topics:

a) 9 1/2 posts:  complaints about the nickname/uniforms/wearing gold shirts
b) 9 1/2 posts:  general complaints about recruiting, inappropriate banners, james being overrated, the schedule, etc.
c) 2 posts:  general props for MU:  Accomplishments in the past, ebay auctions (although I score this 1/2 prop, 1/2 gripe about the nickname)
d) 4 posts:  Largely unrelated to MU (i.e. the Bears, Sherrel Ford)
e) 0 posts:  Win over USF
f) 0 posts:  Win over Pitt
g) 0 posts:  Win over WVU
h) 0 posts:  Win over UConn
i) 0 posts:  Win over Louisville
j) 0 posts:  Win over USF
k) 0 posts:  Big East horserace
l) 0 posts:  winning 3 nonconference road games
m) 0 posts:  improvement shown over the last six games.

Now, perhaps you really are an MU fan.

But I find it amazing that you haven't posted one single positive thing about any of our last five wins, the immprovment in play, the fact that we have a six game winning streak, etc..

Marquette84,
Fans are either critical and never satisfied, fervently protective homers or somewhere in between.  The great thing about having so many different stripes on the board is that it leads to debate and ultimately a pool of information for the rest of us to sift through.  Why not just approach it from the perspective that he's of one opinion and you're of another?  You can't win a debate by arguing that the other person is consistent and won't flip positions every once in a while.

Besides, you'd have nothing to post if he didn't give you something to refute. ;)

I can't believe she's the "best" Wisconsin has to offer. As a California native, I've seen better from the Dairyland state than her. :-\

But she's from MU so I guess I have to kind of support her...

I found this part of her bio very interesting:

"There are a couple of compelling ironies in Meghan's life. She grew up in a major metropolitan area and yet has never been far from life on a farm. She has had to milk cows, drive a tractor and bale hay on her uncle's dairy farm in northern Wisconsin. Also, Meghan has been a successful performer in the arts all her life, while her engineering major is all about math and science. People do not expect Meghan, the girly girl with the pretty dresses and the spinning baton, to feed cows or be a biomedical engineer."

Yes, my friends, VERY compelling ironies...

Here's another negative post -- Marquette84 is a stalker. Thank you for all that research.

For the record, the only game I have seen recently is the West Virginia game. I didn't bother to post after the game, as it was early on a Saturday and I had other things to do. The PITT game was a Sunday, a day I was at the NFC Championship game...again, too occupied to post. I don't generally post about games I haven't seen and I don't generally come on days after a game to restate what has already been said about a performance.

Perhaps you can do an entire dissertation on the history of my posts. Can you please summarize your last 25 posts. How many have been addressed directly to me?

Wow, what a quintessential debate.  You got your PRN jabs about the Eagle, and MU84 lying in wait with a dissertation criticizing someone or their thoughts.  Classic.

The world is alive with the sound of music!

yeah.. except the lyrics have been butchered... "somewhere in my youth or childhood.. I must have done something bad... for nothing comes from this.. nothing ever had.. so somewhere in my youth or childhood.. I must have done something bad"  :(

Marquette84 is a little "stalkerish" with this post... but his point is valid.

Some people just wait until they can take a shot at the golden eagle, or the color gold, or crean's hair, or DJ's socks, or how stupid the administration is, etc. etc.

I'm not saying I want to see this argument over and over again... but it's interesting when you can see a pattern to how people post.

I guess these people are fans, but it looks like they are just bitter about something with MU.

Again, I'm fully aware that the program isn't perfect, but it's gone pretty well over the past 10 years. Enjoy it.

and I don't generally come on days after a game to restate what has already been said about a performance.

Yet, you generally come on months or years after a nickname, recruiting, or uniform decision to restate what has already been said.

I'll let you do the classification--I wouldn't want to be accused of sugar coating the details.  Here's the link--have at it:

It would appear that this is my 3rd response to you in the last 25 posts.

This one is #3.
#2 was earlier in this thread.
#1 was in response to you calling Trend a "complete waste of a scholarship."

Which reminds me, I don't think you ever offered any valid reason why you thought Empty Seat would have more potential to help MU this year than taking a chance on Blackledge.

As I said in that thread, the best case at the time was that Trend turns out to be a hidden gem who can really help.  Worst case, he transfers to a program more suited to his ability.

Yet for some reason, with your 20/20 hindsight, you rip on Crean simply becasue Trend hasn't worked out.

Sad part is if Crean took a pass and Trend turned out pretty good, you'd rip Crean for NOT signing him.

Maybe I shouldnt get into this argument, but on Trend being a waste of space... I thought that about Barro, being a waste of space, and I am sure I wasn't the only one during Barro's frosh year, and man with some coaching you sure can turn players into gems.  We can hope Trend listens to TC like Barro did, and gets his game around, give the man a break, hasn't even finished a year of school

Marquette84 has GOT to be SJS1 from the Ahoya board. He's been stalking me for a couple years now.

Incidentally, my point about Trend was that it was lazy recruiting. Our target turned us down so we immediately offered one of his teammates who wasn't on anybody's radar. The guy admitted he was stunned to get the offer!

at the risk of keeping a crappy thread alive, this is what I think some people are talking about with PRN and a couple of others.

MU could be #1 in the country for 10 years in a row and they could change the nickname back to warriors, and you would still find something to complain about with the coaches, or logo, or admin., or arena, etc. etc.

I'm not sure if Trend was a good recruit or a bad one (too early to tell as he is only about 1/2 way through his first year). Obviously the staff has had some great successes (DW3, Diener, Novak, Jackson, DJ) and some misses (James Matthews, Niv, Bell, etc)

I don't think the staff is immune from being criticized, but I would say the "whole" of the program is better than the "sum" of PRN's gripes.

I personally think Trend isn't a great recruit, but I also know that Crean and Co. have had some success with recruits that weren't highly ranked. I realize Trend was way under the radar, but I think it was a calculated risk taken by the staff. If he doesn't work out, he will be gone after next year... so it's not the end of the world.

If you want to be critical, write something insightful and provide an educated point of view. Please just don't gripe about EVERYTHING you don't like.

I'm not sure why you are bitter towards MU. Some people have some legit reasons to be bitter, MU isn't a perfect institution.

But, it's becoming more apparent with every post you make that something happened with this current administration and coaching staff and nothing is going to satisfy you.

You JUST figured that out?  Even Murff knew within a day or two!

Frankly, I'm beginning to think that YOU have to be wwk from the other board.  He could be counted on to make nothing but negative statements 100% of the time as well.

And don't feel special--I don't single you out for criticism.  I'll reply to anyone anywhere when there's a baseless, excessive, overly-negative, or unwarranted anti-MU statement made.  You just seem to make more of them than anyone else--without any positive statements balancing them out.

Quote from: PuertoRicanNightmare on January 31, 2007, 03:27:41 PM
Our target turned us down so we immediately offered one of his teammates who wasn't on anybody's radar.

This has GOT to be the first recorded case of ANYONE calling Tom Crean a lazy recruiter!

You might have a point IF it were the first day of the early signing period AND there were hundreds of equally qualified recruits who haven't yet committed to programs AND Crean decided not to pursue any of them and take Trend instead.

But that wasn't the case, was it?

Stemler didn't turn us down until late in the spring signing period.  The last day for contact with recruits (per the NCAA recruiting calendar) was April 30th.  Stemler turned us down on May 1st.  Blackledge signed on May 4th.

http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/membership_svcs/recruiting_calendars/2005-06/d1_m_basketball.pdf

So even if Crean WANTED to search out new recruts, he wouldn't have been able to under NCAA rules.

But apparently you think following the NCAA rules is "lazy recruiting".

But lets take this debate one step further--you suggest that Crean simply took the first guy to come along--which of course means that you think there were others who were better than Trend that Crean could have landed if only he weren't so lazy.

So, here's my challenge to you:  Name them.

Hell, name even one!!

I'll bet you can't!

I'll bet you can't name one single player who was still available as of May 4th who you think Crean should have been recruiting instead taking Blackledge.  Someone who signed with anothe team and is adding more value than Trend has with MU.

Time for you to put up or shut up on this.
