ESPN is reporting that Pitino contacted the Kings front office to let them know that he is interested in returning to the NBA.

Buzz to Louisville?
I remember the first time I ever watched a college basketball game, it was 1986 and Pervis Ellison just captivated me. I wrote UL for a media guide and kept it on a cherished shelf next to my MU & IU media guides, still not sure how I got those two.
Maybe it's getting a little too hot in KY.
This sounds like desperation to me. Is another shoe about to drop?
Given Pitino's previous NBA experience, what is the motivation to leave a highly successful college program and return to the NBA?
The guy's a college coach, not an NBA coach. Something's fishy here.
He won 52 games in his 2nd and final season with the Knicks. Who says he can't coach in the NBA?
The closer truth is he is a poor GM, though his Chauncey pick looks good now.

No matter what job you have, and how great it seems from the outside looking in, you eventually get bored doing it. I'm not saying you're wrong, but it may be something as innocuous as boredom (or money for that matter).
I absolutely could be wrong, but that's not what I get when I connect the dots.
Guys...he was banging one of his assistant's wives and she's suing him. You really think this is about new challenges?
Could this be why his son moved on to be an asst coach at Florida?
If Pitino does move on, it would be hard to reconcile how many times he's been on tv saying that Louisville was his last stop.

Maybe having to do with that extortion attempt against him?

Edit: PRN got to it before me, but here's the thread discussing the matter.

100% right ... Slick Rick really screwed up and is trying to get as far away from Louisville as possible.
Also, my guess is that his son moved on to Florida because he's a little pissed off at his dad right now.

Yup. Unhappy spouse, son moving on, the signs all point to making a move and getting a fresh start in a new environment.
Maybe he is sick of living next to Christian Laettner ;)
Despite the rumors and scandals...I really don't think Slick Rick is jumping ship. L'ville clearly is a national power, and they're about to open a state of the art arena downtown for the university.
Just don't see it happening.

If the report is credible, that Pitino made the overtures to the Kings, sounds like Pitino wants out. Might be some high profile L'ville recruits/players looking for new homes soon.

Has any team ever had a 13-player recruiting class? Could we be the first? (insert smiley here -- but I refuse to use one).

It
would (not saying its true!) seem that our standards have changed some under Buzz, but there's a big difference between that and some of the recruits slick Rick brings in.
