You don't get it at all? We have paparazzi taking pictures of celebrities when they walk their dogs, take out the garbage and arrive at bars. We have too many magazines, web sites, chat boards, gossip pages (in print news papers), e type channels/shows and b-list celebrity reality shows to count.
People want to feel as close to the people they are interested in as possible. This gives them the ability, for the first time in human history, to be in direct contact with those people. I joined myspace back in 2003 when i found out that the main boxing group there had photographers, trainings and occasional ESPN Friday night fight fighters who would show up and post on occasion. Twitter is that times 1000.

Maybe better said, I won't use it. Message boards is about as crazy as I get with this stuff. All that celebrity stuff is just crap in my mind. I don't watch reality shows....hell, I don't watch American Idol. The idea of twitter for me is just overdose central, but yes I do understand what you're saying. There are many people that live for this crap with celebs, etc.
The majority of people I know on Twitter aren't on it to follow celebrities. They use it mostly as a news source and to stay connected to people they actually know...not people they wish they knew.
I don't get the insecurity of some people to constantly post what they are thinking or doing (and I am from the current technologically in the know crazed generation).
I don't get wanting to know everything about somebody through some odd postings on something that sounds rather perverted "twitter." It just sounds invasive "to twitter."

I get what you are saying and know that is the case for many but seems like the status on facebook would be a more effective way of doing that.
