Title: OT: Van Sickle wins again
Post by: bma725 on April 15, 2009, 07:52:08 AM
FWIW, while we're all thinking about the different combinations of MU players that might get drafted in the NBA, we've got another possible pro on our hands, and a guy that might turn out to by MU's first PGA Tour player.

MU's Van Sickle does it again
By Gary D'Amato of the Journal Sentinel
Apr. 14, 2009

Mike Van Sickle knows how to close tournaments.

The Marquette University senior did it again Tuesday, making birdies on the final two holes to claim his 11th collegiate title at the Palisades Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

He shot 69-65-66 for a 16-under-par 200 total, one stroke off his school record. It's the fifth victory of the 2008-'09 season for Van Sickle and the fourth time he has come from behind in the final round. He edged VCU's Vincent Nadeau (202) and Louisville's Riley Wheeldon (204), who shot a tournament-record 61 in the second round.

Marquette placed third overall with a team score of 6-under 858. Senior Dustin Schwab posted his lowest score of the season and tied for 16th place at 215.

The Golden Eagles tee it up Sunday through Wednesday in the Big East Men's Golf Championship at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

Anyone who's seen Van Sickle play which pro would you compare his game to?  Lee Janzen type with great irons? Big hitter?

He's an extremely long hitter, good iron player, and a pretty good putter.  Weakness is the rest of the short game and wedge play.

It would be nice to cheer on a Warrior playing the PGA tour!

His dad is a senior writer for SI.... I did not know that

I guess his son would compare to Kenny Perry? maybe Paddy? I hope he starts dressing like Ian Poulter or Adam Scott

Don't care how he dresses, 16 under for 3 rounds in collegiate play is insane.  Hope he keeps it going this spring.

Betsy's his mother.

For those who don't know, Betsy Van Sickle was the MU sports information director in the 1980s.
