Title: Random thought re: Hasheem Thabeet
Post by: Coach Norman Dale on April 14, 2009, 07:52:33 AM
Do they have music accompanying the announcement of draft picks at the NBA draft -- similar to music played when a batter comes to the plate or a relief pitcher comes into the game? If not, they should because I would just LOVE to hear the Go-Gos singing "We got the beat" when Hasheem Thabeet's name is announced. ...  "We got Thabeet. We got Thabeet. We got Thabeet.  WE GOT 'EM!"  Now try not to think about this the next time you hear that song.   ;D

I wouldn't be that excited about drafting him.

Yeah, who would want the next Dikembe Mutombo on their team?

I hope he goes to the Heat to play with Wade.  My second choice would be Oklahoma City.  That would be an awesome young nucleus with Durant, Green, Westbrook and Thabeet.

Is Thabeet better than Hibbert?   Roy isn't setting the world on fire.

Thabeet to Mutombo is one of the better comparisons I've heard. That would sway me back toward Thabeet a little bit, but not as a first 3-4 picks guy. I think he's too soft to build a franchise around, but he'd be a fantastic top defensive-option/any offense is a bonus type of guy.

Yes, a much better pro prospect.  More athletic, bigger, and can learn everything else.

Much better shot blocker, rebounder, and quicker.  Needs to bulk up for the league a bit (if Blair threw him over his shoulder like a rag doll, imagine what Shaq even at 37 would do to him) and bring aggressiveness consistently to the table, but could definitely be a solid building block for a lottery team.

Wow, talk about annoitment.  Mutombo was one of the greatest shot blockers in the history of the NBA.  Thabeet got owned by DeJuan Blair, a 6'8" power forward.  Has Thabeet even ever played a competitive game against a fellow 7 footer?

I predict many a nutsack on Thabeet's chin in his first year.

I dare anyone in the NBA to attempt to get their nutsack the 6 feet 10 inches in the air required to place it on Thabeet's chin.

I'm just saying you can't teach 7'3. If Manute Bol can have an impact in the NBA then I like Thabeet's chances.

I'm not sure if 2.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 3.3 blocks per game is really an impact.

No, but Manute could hit the occasional 3-ball.

in his first year, sure.  But he'll be a solid contributer in 2-3 years.  Does anyone think he avgs less than 12-8 with 2.5 blocks per game in 3 years?  Doesn't that makes him a top 8 center?  If he goes above 5 then it's a reach but after that, if you don't have a center, he's a good prospect.  I don't think this is an amazing class overall.
