Recruits sign up with a coach, not a school. Both MU and IU found that out last year.
It may not be right but that is the way the world works.
If Buzz extends an offer to Gillespie as an assistant coach at MU! Two questions ...
1) Does Gillespie take it?
2) Who can he bring with him?
Gillespie is a high D1 head coach. He won't take an assistant job, probably won't be offered any b/c everyone knows he wouldn't take it.
He will land somewhere that needs to be rebuilt, or take a year off.

I'm sure the buy-out in his contract is close to, if not, seven figures. Gillispie wont be hurting anytime soon, he'll be able to pick and choose his next stop with plenty of discrimination.
Depending on his relationship with Buzz though, if he plans to sit out this year, he could certainly refer some of his recruits here if they want out of their UK commits.
If he came to MU, I'd be more worried about the recruits he takes from MU to his next job when he eventually leaves.
Dumb topic...
He is not coming to MU. Everyone I talked today says the guy is a dick. UK did not fire strictly o record because too much money is involved. His off court stuff played into it.
Any chance Billy sends this guy, Dominique Ferguson, to MU... http://kentucky.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=71072

I know it sounds really stupid but I thought there was a rumor that a contract or at least a long term contract was not signed.

That is somewhat correct. No contract per se, but from what I've read on the KY boards in the past, there's been a "memorandium of understanding" that defines the basic parameters of the contract agreement (salary, benefits, buyout, etc.). It's legally binding to both parties, though, so if one side breaches the terms, the other can sue in court.
Was 84 a low enrollment year?

Exactly, and he's not going to go work for Buzz. BG will probably end up being the OU or OSU coach if the right dominoes drop

He's stubborn is the best way to explain him.....like many coaches. He didn't like doing many of the off the court requirements that are part of today's job. He just wants to coach.
As far as I know Buzz is happy with his assistants. He not going to run one off to get an assistant that will go back to head coaching soon.

Besides, he already has one former boss below him, no need to add another.
Of course, Larry Shyatt was fired from Clemson and people scoffed when he took a seat next to Donovan in Gainesville. He's only got a couple rings from that arrangement.
He's a big time boozehound. That's why he got fired. He would not be a good fit here as an Asst Coach with a designated driver so he could drink around time.
Boozehound? He would have fit well on El Deano's staff then, huh?

Sutton was the boozehound at Kentucky. He had the driver 24/7.
