Title: On the Scout board...
Post by: VwArrior1 on March 26, 2009, 02:02:43 PM
I read that us and IU are the leaders for Darius Smith reported by Jerry Meyer at rivals.com.

Heres the link:

"So you're telling me there's a chance..."

;D

Sounds like a player... let's sign him up!

IU still has a lot of roster spots at guard.  I hear they want to have 10 guards on scholarship and 3 small forward projects.    ;)

That would be a great get!  Let's not lose him to "It's Indiana!"

Hopefully he will have a chance to talk to Jerel, DJ, and Wes before he makes a decision, particularly Wes.  I think Wes has a pretty strong opinion on Buzz's ability to coach and develope guards.

Getting Smith would be awesome.

I'd be very excited about the next couple years with him in next this class.

Unfortunately, getting Smith may be very difficult.  But, dream on......

Why? Because its INDIANA we are up against? Since when is it dreaming when we may be in his top two?

Indiana may not be the problem.
Duke and Memphis, on the other hand, could be. I don't believe either have offered, but both are involved. Duke sent an assistant coach to watch him play in the Illinois HS playoffs a couple weeks ago.

I'm not too worried about Memphis.  Tyreke Evans will likely go pro, at which point, John Wall will sign with Memphis.  Every other school needing a point guard will then slug it out for Eric Bledsoe and Smith.

Duke has Nolan Smith, Jon Schyer and Elliot Williams.  Three guards that will see lots of playing time next year. I only mentioned those three, because Gerald Henderson, only a junior, will probably enter NBA draft.  If Henderson stays, then Smith would get Hazel time.  Just ask Greg Paulus who lost his time to Williams.

Agree with Memphis scenario, Evans, along with his personal entourage, will go in draft.  Memphis gets John Wall and that will make Calapari's recruiting class the best in NCAA history.

Indiana recruited a point guard and has Jeremiah Rivers coming in from Georgetown.  Also coming off a terrible year.

MU has a freshman point guard and a JUCO shooting guard, so Smith could be recruited with the promise from Buzz of seeing significant at both positions.

Would be a nice recruit and I hope the staff comes through with Smith.

Here's what Meyer wrote.
Smith- nearly impossible to get information but thinking Indiana or Marquette

That's a far cry from a 50/50 shot.

Smith is a solid prospect, but not the kind of player who will turn down Duke because he wouldn't start as a freshman. He may not go to Duke for other reasons, but if Duke offers and he declines, it won't be over starting minutes. Heck, if he comes to Marquette, chances are he wouldn't start.

See above. Smith isn't the kind of player who would walk onto Memphis' campus and expect to start right away. We're talking about a kid who's ranked by most outside the top 100.

Looks like we know where the scholarship for Smith would come from at IU....the houseCreaning has begun:

Were any potted plants harmed as a result of this transfer? ;D

I think there's more to come too at I4, because as I recall, they were like 3 scholarships over the limit for 2009-2010.

No surprise here. A leopard doesn't change his spots.
