Watching SDSU on the duece right now, anyone know the story of why Ammo left MU?
He and San Diego State currently taking it to Patty Mills and St. Mary's in the NIT quarterfinals.
He left because he teammates basically voted him off the team.
He couldn't get markers at Potowotomi anymore.

I think there was more to it than just his gambling. Diener and Todd Townsend also frequented the Potawatomi casino. Used to see them both playing craps all the time.
Would have been nice to have had another big man last year, especially one that can score.

Another big man that can score? We still talking about Ammo? He had that one good game in Alaska..i really dont think we are missing much with him gone.
He only averages 7 points and 5 rebounds in a Mid-Major conference, that would be a lot lower in the Big East!!!
He's cloned and resurrected himself as Bobby Capobianco!
correct me if i'm wrong, but we wouldn't have had him this year anyways. i thought the only reason he is playing this year is because he sat out a year after transfer.
rag on him if you want, but i've met and hung out with ryan. i found him to be an actually decent guy. i don't know the exact reasons for leaving, so i try not to speculate ever on it and wish him the best.

Right. He would have graduated last season with Ooze and Fitz.
It's because he bet against us... vs UConn among those games
something about a select few benc players and wanting to get money in shady ways.... eh Pat Hazel?

So this is the reason Buzz hasn't even mentioned Pat Hazel's name in passing the last six weeks?
Not a chance. If that were so, he would have been dumped immediately, with the "he has rendered himself ineligible for NCAA play" line.
Ammo had a personality conflict with Crean. Free spirit vs. Hardcore. Mortenson is the one who had his scholarship and eligibility taken away. If Ammo had violated NCAA rules, he would not have been eligible even after the transfer.

OK, the weather might be an issue I'll grant you but aren't the better looking Marquette women imported from Chicago?

I had a personality conflict with Crean too. Smart kid, that Ammo, I always liked him.

Bingo. Amo was a bit closer to a regular college student than your typical high D1 athlete. Everyone who hung out with him thinks he was a regular, nice guy...you have to be pretty crazy about basketball to live the high D1 life style - that is why I respect the player's work ethic so much.
I think it was a matter of him not being as insane as Crean is about basketball, so he went to a smaller school, is still getting a degree, and did ok. More power to him. The gambling stuff is crap.

During his time at MU, Amo struck me as the type of guy who played basketball because he was really good at it, not because he really loved it. He just didn't seem to have the passion that many other D1 players have. I don't mean that as a knock on the guy. There are a lot of athletes who fit that description.

i think you hit the nail on the head. if i was really good at something i would do it too, doesn't mean that it would be my only passion. I know ammo was also good in football and a scratch golfer i think. i remember watching him win a chipping contest the golf team had on the AMU lawn. stuck like 3 balls within 2 feet from the pin from 20 yards away. i could definitely see a riff between his lifestyle and crean's control of his players lives. some people just aren't a fit for a coach, plain and simple.
