Title: Piecing together next year's schedule
Post by: NavinRJohnson on March 23, 2009, 11:59:15 AM
Trying to figure what it is going to look like.

- 18 Big East
- Old Spice Classic (3 games)...Alabama, Baylor, Creighton, Iona, Michigan and Xavier.
- NC State
- UWM
- "IPFW" X 7
- @ UW-Madison

Is that correct?

I also believe that our game vs. UWM next season is at UWM, the U.S. Celluar Arena. Does anyone know for sure? I thought the original deal was 2 at the BC, 1 at the Cell and 2 more at the BC.

Thanks for clarifying -- I was not sure.

Damn.  That's weird looking at the Wiki and NOT seeing James/Matthews/McNeal/Burke on there.

Well, it looks like it needs edited.  Every MUScoop member can edit the wiki.  Click "login" in the upper right corner, and use your muscoop username and password to log in (hint: click "Remember me" to avoid having to log in every time).

Is there not another Big East / SEC challenge next year?

There is, but they only take four teams from each conference and they rotate.  So I don't think we get it again in 2009-10 or 2010-11.  The contract is up after that year and the SEC ADs want to expand it to include their entire conference so we may be back in again.

Frankly with a new less experienced roster that we will have next year I think those other games will just be cupcakes.

we will need a few cupcakes for a squad that could very well start two freshmen (Junior, Jeronne) and a sophomore (Liam).

Things could set up kind of nicely. I assume we'll have 3 or 4 buy games, plus an exhibition before the competition level ratchets up a bit in the Old Spice, then a couple more before UW, and the a couple more still before NCSt and the BE.

Didn't Buzz, immediately after becoming HC, toughen up the NC games for this year as much as he possibly could from the cupcake NC schedule that Crean had setup?  Wouldn't Buzz make the NC schedule less cupcake like for next year?

Because of MU's need for a certain amount of home games every year to support the athletic department financially, there's only so far any coach can go in toughening up the schedule. Like it or not, MU always is going to need a bunch of buy games and usually those buy games are going to involved cupcakes.

Every big program plays buy games, we will probably have 7 next year. Depending on who Buzz gets for those buy games...we should have a nice non con SOS next season.

I think the non-conf schedule is set up well for our young team.
