Title: The Amigos' Last Dance
Post by: Tom Crean's Tanning Bed on March 22, 2009, 03:13:31 AM
Man, where do you even start with this?

In the 8+ years I've been following this program, I don't think I've ever been this shellshocked by a piece of news concerning Marquette basketball.

Three and a half weeks ago, this was a team that looked like they could make a deep run in the NCAAs.  When Dom went down, it was a kick in a gut to everyone; the fans that have been waiting four years for this moment, the players who have scratched and clawed thru every practice, the coaches that have invested so much time in developing this program.

When the news came out tonight, I thought it was a joke.  And so did everyone else.  But as the text messages came pouring in, the iPhones were being checked, it became all the more real.  You could see the jaws agape at the bars when friends were telling others of the news or strangers were seeing it on the ESPN ticker.

I don't know how much Dom can give us today.  5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, whatever.   And I don't know if we win this game either.  Either way, the Amigos (and Burke) now have the chance to finish their careers as one.

We already know that Wes, Dom, and Jerel will be regarded as greats in Marquette lore.  Today they get to start writing the ending together.  After what we've been thru for the last 3 and a half weeks, I couldn't be happier to see the Amigos ride again.

it's too late for me to make the game on Sunday but if by some miracle, we win... come hell or high water, I will be in Glendale for the game to support these guys.  Not that I didn't without DJ but this would be too special...

Right on General!  So much so that I put an end to my incessant muscoop lurking, and made an acct.

No posturing, (although I would have accepted "its on like donkey kong") or inane predictions, just a genuine appreciation for the squad and their efforts this season  ;)    I'm so glad James gets another Marquette game on his career.  Enjoy watching the game tomorrow today folks

General .. awesome post.

The minute DJ steps on the court, the Warrior fans at the 'Bell will go absolutely bonkers.  Huge emotional lift for the team, for the fans.

I'm so excited about this I ALMOST don't care if MU wins or loses today. DJ has been the ultimate WARRIOR (not a wrestling reference) since he arrived on campus. That he'll finish his career (hopefully in Detroit) on the court instead of sidelines is just plain AWESOME!

This game would be such a HUGE win - I can't imagine a bigger story and more coveraage for any other event today than the return of DJ and a winb for Marquette - wow.  I am praying hard for a big WIN!
