Title: Memorial Almost Blows It...Wins in OT
Post by: GGGG on March 20, 2009, 10:13:40 PM
Maymon's Madison Memorial team, with at least two division one players in their starting line-up, almost gakked up a game they had in hand against Bayport...at team that might have a couple players going to St. Norbert or some such.  Bayport was fundamentally much better, but Maymon had a nice game although not many points because he got tripled everytime he touched the ball.

I wouldn't say they almost gagged, I'd say the refs were able to almost give it away.  That was probably the worst officiated game I've ever seen at any level.

The basket for Bayport at the end of the 4th quarter that tied the game, was not a foul, not even close. Then on the next possession Maymon gets hacked right in front of the ref and there's no call.  His miss goes to a Memorial teammate who gets hit in the head by a Bayport player, and they call the Memorial player for the foul.  And in OT when Blue blocked the 3 pointer, the Bayport player grabbed Blue's jersey and dragged him down to the ground so that he couldn't go after the loose ball.

Just an absolutely terrible display of officiating and those refs should be ashamed of themselves.

It was a very poorly officiated game.  Bayport had a legit gripe at the end of the third quarter too.

My guess is that Horlick wins tomorrow though.  Wilson didn't have a great shooting night, but he is an absolutely complete player.  He's pretty much the same type of player as Erik Williams right??

Not really.  They are about the same size, but that's it.  Williams is a more complete offensive player in terms of scoring, but Wilson is a better passer and more athletic.  Neither one is particularly good at defense right now, Williams is a good shot blocker but struggles with on the ball defense.  Wilson often doesn't even seem to try on defense.

I also wouldn't say he's close to a complete player at this point.  Most of the year he got a lot of his points simply because the only player on the court that could approach him athletically was his teammate Antwon Oliver.  He was faster than anyone guarding him and could get his shot whenever he wanted, but didn't even try in some games.  He got a lot of his points on rebound put backs and alley oops.  He's improving, but he's not a good perimeter shooter.

Plus, anyone who's watched him throughout the year knows that Wilson often doesn't go at 100% and many times seems to have a bad attitude on the court.  The fact that it's state and he'll be going against Maymon should keep him focused the entire time.

Good game at the end.  Maymon with 15 and 11 I think?  He had some good smooth FT at the end too.

It was good to see Maymon get a double double and also hit 9 of 10 FTs. He hit 6 FTs in a row in OT. I hope Blue is truly rethinking his decision to go to Wisconsin, he would thrive in Marquette's program.
