Title: Vander Blue
Post by: 4everwarriors on March 19, 2009, 07:53:35 PM
Taking a short break from the Tourney and turned on MM vs. Germantown. IMO, Vander Blue is the most college ready player on the floor. That includes Maymon and Averkamp as well. Blue is the real deal at the guard position. In which case, UW has a terrific player. If he's having second thoughts about his commitment, then MU should entice him to follow Maymon to Milwaukee.

He has been very impressive.  Just dominating this game much like Maymon did at state last year.

35 points worth of impressive including a perfect 9 for 9 free throw shooting.

I was going to post the exact same thing with the addition that he will not maximize his skills in the swing offense, very good in the open court.

Jeronne had a quiet night but i was very impressed with his passing, always seemed to be looking for the open guy.

Memorial is not well coached, too many TO's and quick shots.  Memorial was up by 20 early in the second half and gave Germantown opprtunities to get back in the game, germantown was well coached.

That's how Memorial plays.  They win because they nearly always have the most talent on the floor, there isn't much of a scheme going on.  They just hope one player is going off and feed him the ball.  This year it's Vander Blue.  Last year it was Maymon.  When Wesley was a senior he got it, and when he was a junior he often deferred to Mike Nelson(NDSU).

Had the exact same thoughts- It will be a shame to see him waste that ability playing the post in the swing.

One other tidbit from the telecast, the announcers mentioned Blue was going to be a Badger more often then Len Elmore mentioned Pitt has a bunch of NYC kids.

I am sometimes amazed we ever get kids from Wi with all the built in support for UW.  I know it is the state school but having grown up in Michigan just not used to the one trick pony.

Is he? Maybe bma725 can update the latest?

I heard Vander Blue has been waivering on his verbal to WI? Will he follow Jerrone

Also Avercamp has only committed to Loyola Chi. He wasn't garnering much big (or even Mid level) recruitment attention

Didn't the announcer say Vander Blue gave his oral commitment his sophmore year??

That's the rumor, but no one outside of Vander and his mother know the truth.  He did attend at least one MU game this year with Jerrone, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Memorial is terribly coached.  They hardly ran any sets for Jeronne at all.  Everything is freewheeling.  Watching Bayport now crush Beloit.  They'll give Memorial a game.

You can't judge much off one game but I was still excited by what I saw out of Maymon tonight.  He could create on the dribble fairly well despite the refs whistling him for some travels.  Didn't force much and created for others.  Great passer for a big body, led the team in assists and rebounds tonight...only shot a couple from outside and wasn't hitting but that'll come.

Maymon kinda reminds me of Michael Beasley in terms of his style of play, athleticism, skill set, and body type.

You have to wonder what would have happened if April Fool's day of last year goes differently.  Vander Blue committed to Madison at the end of April, while the aftershocks of Crean's departure were still being felt.  That said, maybe Blue makes the same decision, but I'm sure Crean's abrupt exit didn't help MU's chances.

At the time, maybe. If he is wavering, I think it helps. Mainly because TC had basically nothing to do with Maymon.

That's a good point too.

Bo will use Vander Blue a lot like he used Devin Harris------and will allow him to single handidly dribble the ball down th floor off longer rebs and TOs ahead of the defense for the fast break bucket or dishoff. He is resourceful and talented enough to fit any system-------as good as Devin Harris in HS.

On Maymon------he has talent-----passes very well & rebounds well when the spirit moves him, but his pullup jump shot is horrible (lazy jump and off balance). Will have a real culture shock at MU when Buzz has to bear down on him to substantially upgrade his intensity-----how Maymon handles that pressure will determine his future at MU. Right now he's not very engaged------defensively he'll have to start from ground zero as he doesn't have a clue.

Oh he will most definately benefit UW.  The question is will his talents be best used at UW.  Considering that no one really thought that Devin Harris would be an NBA all star, you have to wonder if Bo really harnessed his talents to the fullest.

Vander will be a very good player wherever he goes but his talents won't be "unleashed" in the swing offense.  He would be way more dynamic in a more pro style offense.

I think he also kind of looks like him.

I was at the game last night and Blue was by far the most talented player on the floor. If would decide to decommit,MU should get after him hard.
