Is that you up in the upper left hand corner, under the "A"?
Can't see any other Warriors ..

That's Jerel on the far right. He's after the "D" and he's wearing gold.
I'm certain that's Crean on the bottom left with the blue and white face. The dude is a publicity whore.
You can't see any other warriors, 'Topper?
Tell me you see the big picture of Jerel between the E and the D.
hah. I see Jerel now. That's one of those, couldn't see the forest for the trees!
Does this qualify as the SI curse with Jerel featured so prominently?
Anyone recall who was on it the year of the Final Four?... Karon Bradley. At least they got a starter on there this time.
So why is the Golden Eagle getting shat upon by Coach K?
myguess is that is the upper midwest edition multiply that by the number of addiotns and you problem have 30= teams that are jinxed?

If it makes you feel any better, I did the exact same thing. Great publicity for Jerel. Good for him.

My daughter and I also did the same thing. I was getting pissed because I was looking for a tiny guy in gold. I was about ready to throw it back on the counter when the big guy in white jumped out at me.
Judging by the body motions, it's TallTitan. Way to go buddy.
This cover has more eagle!

More eagle, less Marquette. Don't get greedy dickbag.
He's not a dickbag. But .. I've been within smelling distance of him a few times at the Bradley Center. He's clearly a stinkbag.
Pee Uuuu!

I've adorned the costume many of occasions (only a few Men's games) and it does reek.
Embarrassing moments in Marquette history:
1. Nickname change
2. Gold fiasco
3. Midnight Express
4. Golden Eagle on cover of SI
5. Dahmer

Haha. So glad you're back PRN. Finally somebody to put the serial killer into perspective.

Aren't No. 1 and No. 2 the same thing?
Why is it emberassing to have your school mascot on the cover of the most prestigious sports magazine in the country?
(1 was changing it from Warriors to GE. 2 is going from GE to Gold)
Is Fr. DiUlio somewhere on that list? Closing of the 'Lanche? Loss to Western Michigan?

Well (answering for PRN), I think #1 is referring to Warriors->GEs, #2 is purely referring to the short-lived "Gold" brainchild.

Who's the blond cheerleader behind Blake griffin's head?
Hilltopper and Warrior are correct. #1 was changing to GE, #2 was changing to Gold. Fr. Diulio certainly ranks among the top 10. Our coaching "search" and the closing of the 'Lanche were considered, but I consider it even more embarrassing that the university wouldn't consider Golden Avalanche as either a) the name of the student section or b) the name to replace our current abhorrent name because of its association with the bar...which, of course, was named for MU's former football squad! You can't make this stuff up!
The people making these decisions are complete boobs.
Frankly, The Marquette Avalanche would have been better than GE or Gold.
Meh.

Agreed.
We could not have done worse with what we have.

Where does the name change from Hilltoppers to Warriors rank?... or is that one ok because most of the Hilltoppers are no longer with us?
Kevin's gone? Where'd he go?
Are there people who actually believe changing our name to Golden Eagles was a good idea? I mean, honestly? Perhaps you think Warriors was unacceptable (I certainly do not), but do you think it was a wise decision to change to Golden Eagles?
Anybody with a brain in their head knows the answer. It was HORRENDOUS! Why can't your brain washed PC zombies admit it was a bad decision?
Of course it was horrendous - of course it was a bad decision. While I will always be a warrior, if I had to pick between GE, Gold, Avalanche or Hilltoppers, I would pick Hilltoppers. The best of the worst... (at least it is the classiest of the four) JMHO

I use the term "most" loosely as most of the alumni from that era are at least 75+ yrs old.
1917-1954 – Marquette nicknamed "Hilltoppers" because of its original location on a hill between North 10th and State streets.
May 1954 – Name "the Warriors" is adopted at the first meeting of the Student Senate, replacing names Golden Avalanche and Hilltoppers
I find the self-righteousness of
some of the pro-warrior crowd a little hypocritical.
The "Warrior" nickname was forced on the "Hilltoppers"... where's the outrage for that name change? Why is it always about GE's and Warriors?

I would say the demolition of the "Lighthouse", but I'm obviously biased. I'll go with the closing of the 'Lanche.
Why wouldn't you want your athletes to be known as warriors? For that matter, why wouldn't Indians want to known as warriors. Who is going to speak up for the bears, eagles, or mudhens?
If animals could talk maybe they would be pissed that people have labelled athletic teams with their very being.

Fr. DiUlio did and whatever half-assed PR agency that also thought "Lightning" made sense for MU. Other than that, most people think if we were moving from Warriors, we could have done better than GE. However, the vast majority has simply moved on.
On the inside of the issue SI makes its tourney picks. They picked Utah State to win. Their reason is "Loss of injured defensive stopper James dooms Warriors".
I guess they did not get the memo regarding the name change.
