From Rovell's CNBC blog today...
$0: Amount that North Dakota State will make from the NCAA for playing in the tournament. When the team joined the Summit League, it agreed to wait until 2010 to receive a half of a share of postseason money and 2011 to get their full share. It wasn't a bad move at the time. The last time a team played in the tournament in its first year in Division I-A was in 1972. NDSU's share will be split among the other conference members.
$69: Price DirecTV is charging for fans to watch out-of-market tournament games, including the ability to watch four games at the same time.
$1,762: Cost of the cheapest group of roundtrip non-stop flights found on Orbitz from Phoenix to Miami, leaving on Wednesday and returning on Sunday -- as of 9:30 p.m. ET last night. This was roughly three hours after it became clear that both Arizona and Arizona State would be playing in first-round games in Miami.
$4,050: Operating costs for each player at Alabama State last year, the lowest of any tournament teams.
$183,412: Operating costs for each player at Marquette last year, the highest of any tournament teams.
$600,000: Amount of money No. 16 seed UT-Chattanooga reportedly has to cut from its athletic budget next year.
$2.6 million: Amount Kentucky, which missed its first tournament since 1999, paid its coach Billy Gillespie this year.
$16,029,219: Amount, in profit, Louisville basketball made last year, according to the Equity in Athletics disclosure.
$3 billion: Estimated amount that will be wagered in office pools in the United States, according to gambling expert R.J. Bell of Pregame.com.
What exactly does that mean? Is it simply the operating budget divided by the number of players on the team?
We only had 11 scholarship players.
My guess is that many tournament teams spent as much if not more than us, but spread it over 12 or 13 scholarship players.
Does it include coaches' salary?

McMorrow is still a scholarship player despite redshirting because of the transfer. That gives MU 12 scholarship players.
On CNBC (tv), Rovell expanded his analysis to show Memphis ~$140K per. But he offered no more color as to the figures. So see it as you will, but remember that 46.3% of stats are made up on the spot.
This doesn't bode well for Buzz'a mentor @ Kentucky!
I just exchanged with Darren...here is what he said
"IT'S ACCORDING TO THE EQUITY IN ATHLETICS DISCLOSURE WEB SITE....TYPE IN MARQUETTE AND GO TO REVENUES AND EXPENSES AND YOU WILL SEE THIS...

We're Number 1!
I can hear the Utah State fans already.... "Over-spending.....Over-spending!
Those were some pretty expensive karate instructors!
Those numbers include a Crean contract instead of a Buzz contract, so it'll go way down next year.
Overall, I see no problem with it. The athletics department spent no more than they made according to that link, so spend away.
Since this for last year, does it include tanning bed costs? ;D

Hyperbaric chambers?
This is a great thing to be highlighter for.....at least in regards to recruiting. Buzz can say w/o hesitation that "no other school spends as much on their basketball players then we do".......
