Utah State is an 11 seed but they are ranked #25 in the coaches poll. How does that happen?! I think we should be able to beat them, but that's a tough draw. Since when are 11 seeds ranked? Nice work selection committee...
In thinking about it, it probably is a good matchup from the committee's standpoint. Losing Dom is big, and could have dropped us plenty more in the seedings. But we are Big East, played tough down the stretch, nice "body of work" etc... Utah has a great RPI, ranked 25, and could easily have been a higher seeded team, but who did they play? Their body of work is not that impressive. Pitting us against them, it doesn't really matter who is 11 or who is 6, it is a solid matchup and may the best team win. The one guy on the Utah message board claiming that they really are the six seed, well, maybe his thinking is not that far off the mark, but really who cares. 6 or 11, we end up with the 3 to beat rather than the 2 or 1 to get to the sweet 16. It is an right where we should be. And frankly our seasoning in the Big East should make this a very winnable game.
Do they really think it through that much? Maybe.
I like our position and our chances, even without Dom.
Meh, rankings are overrated, especially the coaches' poll since the coaches don't have time to actually see the teams they vote for; they just see the good records and vote for the teams. I think the commitee does more homework for their selections. That being said, I think Utah State should have been somewhere around a 9 seed, but I don't really know much about them.
Well, what will the analysts be saying if the polls come out tomorrow and Marquette is not ranked and Utah state is? That could very well happen as they won their tournament and we have lost 5 of our last 6.
The only ranking that means anything now is we're #6 in our region, they're #11, and we're playing. Who cares about the AP or coaches' poll? This isn't the BCS.
Those rankings don't matter anymore. Just what your seed number is at this point.
If you had put any of the 7 Big East teams that made the field in the WAC, all of them could probably win 30 games.

+1
Unless you put several of them in the WAC together. Then they would continue to eat each other alive.
