Title: Bracketology 3/15
Post by: VwArrior1 on March 15, 2009, 02:24:20 PM
Has us as a 7 seed vs Michigan with Louisville, Oklahoma, Wake, Gonzaga, Clemson, and Tennessee as the 1-6 seeds.  I would definately take that.

Clemson and Tennessee ahead of us?  Really?  I know Tennessee beat us but still.

If I were to predict anything at this point it would overwhelmingly be a potential second round match-up with either UNC or Oklahoma (unless we somwhow get a 6 seed). Seems like a pretty sure bet at this point.

I would definitely not take that because it means we'd be playing Blake Griffin and OU in the second round.  Yeah, I know last year everyone was saying that Stanford would just give us too much trouble with the Lopez/sideshow twins and we ended up losing only on a circus shot.  With Oklahoma though, Griffin's just too good and they're much more balanced, as well.

Recognizing that we have a chance in any game, on any given Sunday, etc., etc....

I think that Oklahoma might be the worst draw for us in the tournament. For some reason, we don't have as many problems defending really tall 5s without tremendous athleticism. Even without James on the court to patrol the passing lanes, Thabeet only managed 14 and 15 against us (note: I say ONLY just b/c I don't think 14 and 15 is enough to put us on our backs, as evidenced by how close that game was until late).  I don't think Hibbert ever really destroyed us either, although I could have just blocked it from my memory.  I think the biggest match-up problem that we have are the supremely athletic 4s, who are taller than everyone on our team, but still able to jump out of the gym.

It's a dumb thing to think about, especially given that we're 2 seasons more experienced, but I keep thinking back to the reports from the Kansas State scrimmage when Beasley was still there. What did he have against us? 30 and 25 or something ridiculous like that? I don't see any of the 4s in the Big East as quite in the Beasley mold, but Griffin scares the stuffing out of me. I'd much rather see a player like Harangody, Monroe, Summers, or even Blair. Griffin reminds me of Stanley Robinson of UCONN, only much more terrifying.

Agreed Mister.  Look at what Wayne Chism did to us.
