6'3" SG... called "marquette bound" in an article. As happened with Fulce maybe the commitment is being held under wraps for now as Jackson has some baggage I believe. Supposedly a good shooter though.

Not MU bound. The writer didn't check his facts.

We have had plenty of baggage. Not sure we need more.
I see. Thanks.
from what i can gather he was academically eligible out of hs and just didn't get a high enough grade last summer in a class. Was committed to Seton Hall last year and interested schools now are us, Kansas State, and Depaul?

Were not interested. End of discussion.
i didn't think we would be if it was for next year.
I wouldn't bet against landing at least one more player for next season.

We were interested for next year at one point. Just not anymore.

What article?
Take a pass
We should never over look talent that struggles in the classroom.......If he's a good kid and can bring something to the table then we shouldn't overlook him. Look at the last person we decided to take a chance on with notable academic issues ;)

James Matthews?
Anyhow, I don't think taking an occasional academic risk is a bad thing, so long as questionable academics aren't the result of questionable character. But let's hope we don't have a roster full of academic risks.
I would hope Buzz isn't left scrambling for players to fill whatever vacancy we may have.

Mbakwe? There have been players with academic problems in the last 9 years not named wade. The fact that we graduate players is something to be proud of and it's something buzz has left to 'prove' he can keep up.
Awesome call on James Mathews. Did he even make it to X-MAS!!!
They all qualified, so bad grades aside I would necessarily use Matthews and Mbakwe as examples of academic issues as its a moot issue once they are enrolled into the communication studies major
Wade didn't struggle in class his last 2.5 seasons at Richards. We're going to have 4 Jucos on the 2010-2011 team; we can't afford anymore risks.

And now, the rest of the story ....
In fairness, two of those kids didn't go the JUCO route out of high school for academic reasons.
Jimmy Butler was a full qualifier who went to JUCO because he was looking for better scholarship offers than what he had during after his senior year of high school. I'd say it turned out fairly well for him.
Joseph Fulce also qualified out of high school and signed with Texas A&M, then went to prep school when Buzz took the UNO job, intending to follow him there. When Buzz then landed at MU, Fulce decided to spend a year in JUCO before heading to Milwaukee. This is why he's a sophomore.
I agree that MU shouldn't be in the business of taking on a roster full of "risks", but contrary to your implication, not all JUCO kids are risks.
Pak, Fulce did not qualify out of HS, that's why he went to Prep. He did then qualify and ended up at UNO, after Buzz left there Fulce went to Juco.
I agree that it doesn't mean they are all bad students but the curriculum at a juco is nowhere near that of MU. That's what worries me.

If that's correct about Fulce - thought I had read otherwise - then I was wrong.
But it remains true that half of those four JUCO kids that are such risks did not, in fact, go to junior college because of academic problems.
