MU as a 7 seed playing Utah State. The 2 seed waiting for us would be Memphis. Louisville, Pitt and UConn are all 1 seeds. Villanova is a 3, Syracuse and WVU are 6.

Yuk.
Utah State is a good mid-major team. But I would absolutely *hate* to play a team like Memphis without DJ.
Any team we would face in the second round is bound to pose problems for us. Unless, of course, St. John's gets in.
I actually love playing Memphis. What 2 seed would you rather play?

+1. I would take this draw in a heartbeat.

That would be as good as any other scenario. Gotta play a 2-3 in round two, so which would you want instead? Kansas, Duke, Michigan St, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, or Washington? I know nothing about Washington, but I don't think Memphis is very different than any of those other 5 teams (Nova is not in my list).

Good point.
I'll take my chances with Memphis...especially if they show up with their usual undisciplined, helter-skelter style of play. Keep in mind, their conference is garbage, and they haven't played that great a competition all year.
Everytime I have looked at the brackets per Lunardi, Marquette is never in the Midwest. The Midwest's 7/10 game is at the Metrodome in Minneapolis and we flat out need to play there.
Is there some compelling reason why the tourney committee would not place Marquette in the Midwest, or are there in fact some reasons why the tourney would want to place Marquette in Minneapolis vs. another location?
The 7/10 game is not locked into the Metrodome, so that is mostly chance that the predicted seeds line up. Secondly, depending who is the #2, they might be hesitant to put MU there because of a potential crowd advantage compared to the top seed.

Same reason we get sent to Anaheim, North Carolina, and San Diego the last 3 years. We're a 6-8 seed and the 6-8 seeds don't have location preference. We get sent wherever the committee feels like sending us.

I don't know it didn't seem to bother them to give Wisconsin a home court advantage in the second round the year they played Pitt at the Bradley Center. Or Louisville playing Texas A&M at Rupp Arena a couple years ago.
I would kill for this draw. Plus this year I think we are likely to get a good draw for us since there are so many BEast teams that will be in the top 8 and we can't play any of them until the Sweet 16 by rule. The only draw I fear is an 8/9 in UNC's bracket. I was hoping they would lose to Va Tech today, but no dice.
At this point, I'd take playing a two-seeded Memphis as well. If we could somehow make the Sweet 16 with a draw like this, a matchup with Washington could be pretty interesting. They also play up-tempo ball and seem to be fairly similar with regards to size. I only saw them play once this year though, in the home win against UCLA.

You mean the same Memphis that played 4 Big East teams this year?
W: SHU (neutral), Cincinnati
L: Syracuse, @ Gtown
Sounds like a team Marquette has a chance to beat.
Memphis' offense is very over-rated (per my Memphis-fan friends). Solid defense, but according to my buds, their offense simply will not fare well against most B East teams.
Just looked at the rundown...and I would take any of those 2 seeds...we can lose by 1 point to any of them ;).
Any way we can put a request for either a 6 seed, or 7 seed MU vs. 10 seed Michigan/OSU/Minnesota/UW-Madison, followed by 2 seed MSU? Either one would be just fine by me.
Six seed not yet out of question. Need Illinois, Purdue, Xavier, and Arizona State to go down. Almost had Florida State, but 3 point play with 3 seconds to go. UGH.

Oof. You know it's tournament time when the dark humor kicks up.

Xavier lost..
This is getting very weird.
Texas, probably was a 7/8 seed loses to Baylor, helps us since Texas goes home. On another note, Maryland spanks #9 ranked Wake. What a week.
Would love it if enough long shots came in to knock out the Badgers and bump us back up to a 5-6
Purdue pounding Penn State, so that looks bad. ASU losing early to Washington. Scoreboard watching not making me feel better about yesterday. I just hate that 7 seed.
