it is interesting all the criticism made of Coach Buzz--much of it deserved. My question would be, what is surprising about his coaching skills at this point of his career?
He is basically a rookie coach. When Numbnuts Crean left, MU did about a 20 minute search, and settled for Buzz. You get what you pay for.
Take a look at the teams that are left in the BEAST tourney and the coach's experience. Even though we may not like them, they must average at least 10 to 15 years head coaching experience, probably more. Boeheim, Huggins and Pitino must have about 60 plus years for those 3.
Buzz is going to make mistakes. If he is the one that said McNeal handles the ball and takes the last shot--it is a mistake. If he was such a great ball handler in that situation to be given that responsibility, then he should be the starting point.
Until we have a coach that has gone through these situations repeatedly, we are going to continue to come out on the short end.
Hopefully Buzz is learning from these situations, but I haven't seen it yet.
And I am tired of the "we can play with any of them" chant-- we continue to lose to the elites. Until we get some wins, the jury is still out on Buzz. I hope we are getting him at a bargain salary!!
Overall, I think Buzz has done a good job. Aside from the technical, I have no problem with his handling of the game yesterday - as far as I'm concerned that's all on McNeal. You expect a senior with 4 yrs of playing experience to make better decisions. I give no credence to what Buzz said after the game about the final play - he had McNeal's back as he should have.
anyone know what he said/did to get T'd yesterday?
he said "foul"
where's my god d*&n sweet tea DJ?
I think you better factor into your equation that God of all coaches Jim Calhoun who's team had control of 4 seperate overtimes and couldn't put away an exausted Syr team.
Calhoun is a classless creep. Boeheim wanted to say something when the two shook hands but Cahourn blew him off. What a d-bag.
You were up that late to see that?
Yes, the coach is directly responsible for every decision ever made by a 22 year old.
I love this site and how the 95% of the Crean haters always blamed him and not the players, but when the shoes on the other foot, they won't do the same.

Yep, and the Crean haters make as much sense as the Buzz haters.
Which is to say, none.
