Just looking at all of the posts blaming Jerel, Buzz, refs or whatever. I think that its overshadowing some good things from the game, especially the bench. To see that we were in position to win the game even though our new Big 3 went 8-36 shows some players must have stepped up. Three players:
1. I'm really liking what I've seen from Jimmy progressing offensively throughout the year (attacking the rim in addition to working the glass), but also defensively playing a lot tighter and even getting some steals. I just love his work ethic and hustle.
2. Mo is starting to look more comfortable in the game, shooting and managing the game. He's pickin up some assists while also not turning the ball over. We can't replace James but I think if he continues to step up it will minimize the damage. Still has to improve ball defense in my eyes.
3. Not to think that the old Cubes is coming back, but it was nice to see him knock down a three in a meaningful game. Hopefully that will help him get back on track and give him some confidence. Like his aggressiveness on D but he's gotta fight through screens better and stick with his man.
* Also looking like our free throws are getting better, that's key especially for a dribble drive team like MU. We made Nova pay for all of their fouls.
All this being said this was a heartbreaking loss. We should have run down the clock and run an actual play instead of resorting to a McNeal going iso against the whole Nova team or heaving up a deep 3. However, being an optimist, even though ideally we would move on (I really think we could Louisville if we played them again) hopefully this will bring back some confidence and light the fire. Now, wait until Selection Sunday
