Post by: DonCornholeone on March 12, 2009, 01:52:19 PM

Does he really think getting a T is going to win him friends with the guys in the striped shirts?

Homer and Mac agree that Jay Wright said about the same thing to the ref that got Buzz the T.

Indeed.  Really tired of him getting t'd up.   4th time this year?  Unreal.

And IIRC, NONE of his T's have been "good" t's.  All for just saying stupid stuff at the wrong time to the wrong guy.

he's got to pick his spots. Right now since he looks like a Stooge the refs figure he IS one.

That was an inexcusable of Buzz.  I can be as critical of the refs as anyone, but there was no justification there.

Yeah I liked it better when our coach didn't even have the balls to approach refs, much less work them.

We're the same school that wears "Al" on our jersey, named our practice facility and game court after Al McGuire, retired the #77 in his honor and has an Al Night every year and people are complaining about Ts?

Are you comparing Al McGuire's use of T's to Buzz's?

What I am saying is I'm not going to fault a guy for trying to make a difference in a game.  I guess I'm jaded and saw on more than one occasion where TC was more interested in instructing the game ops guy to play Cotton Eyed Joe than talking to his team or working a bad ref.

Last play, Homer said Buzz went nuts on a Nova pushoff at the end of the half, .. homer thought Buzz would have gotten his 2nd T, if not for already having one, as he must have gone off on the ref again.

our defense and shooting is as bad as those effing refs.

Not having DJ is hurting us really badly.

I think he looks like a Stooge: Curly.  Mo, Larry, and Shemp have too much hair.

Buzz on Homer's show: "I said 'Can we get some consistency in the fouls?'" and got t'd.  And the guy made both shots.  So that's the difference in the game."

He said it deadpan, like he didn't mean it, but ...

Pretty nasty comments from a head coach. Wow. Doesn't he know his place on the court?

Was this the same crew that did the Cuse game last night? If so, it wouldn't shock me if that's actually all he said. Those guys looked foolish last night.

If that's the case, I hope the Big East officials think twice about hiring these bozos again next year, particularly Higgins.

Two days in a row of putrid officiating.

So MU gets to the line 39 times, seems to me like our hillbilly, just fell off the Beet truck, idiot from UNO coach may actually know what he's doing.

I'm with you.
For years all I've read here, and elsewhere, is that Mu needs a coach who would work the refs hard, even if it means take a 'T' once in a while. In fact, a technical back then was viewed as some kind of magical, game-changing force, (kind of like, these days, a timeout).
Now we have a coach who does it - apparently to some effect - and he's a stooge.
Go figure.

Just wanted to say DonCornholeone, I love your use of the 1984 Fleer design for Butler!

What program did you use?

But that's the thing .. did it have an effect, any of the times Buzz "tried" it?  -- Firstly, doubtful he was even trying to do so, but second,  did the refs change their calling?  Did our team "respond" somehow?  I'm going with no.

We were down 5 at the T .. 5 minutes later, we were down 10, 10 minutes later, down 15.  Clearly, the team wasn't performing better, nor were the refs somehow "afraid" of Buzz.

Did the refs start shading some calls our way?  Hard to tell, but as a complete assumption on my part .. I can't imagine any ref, until Buzz has more than one season of "cred" .. is gonna be deferential to Buzz's wishes.

Honestly, I think Buzz's getting T-d up, if he's telling the truth (yelling "foul" twice somehow got him 2 t's, and this one "can we get some consistency?" got him another) .. that those are pretty tame insults to refs, and if they gave T's for what looks to be minor crying .. that the refs are more annoyed with him than actually thinking he is disrespecting their authority, and want him to pipe down.

If that analysis is right .. then his T's are NOT productive, and would be the opposite.  Annoying the refs is probably worse than just going ape sh1t on them.
Title: Crying Foul
Post by: CaptainHavoc on March 13, 2009, 04:04:31 PM
In Homer's post game interview yesterday, Buzz said that he got T'd up because he told the officials that he wanted more consistency in foul calling.  If I remember correctly, Buzz got his other T's this year because he said the word "Foul".  Well, watching the UConn/Syracuse game last night, I saw Boeheim pointing and could clearly read his lips saying, "That was a foul" to the officials twice.  No technical foul was called.  Unless Buzz said more that what he said he did, I think he got hosed.  What do you make of that?

it sucks, but first year coaches get absolutely no love or respect.
