How far into the doghouse is Hazel? He didn't even get in. It looks like he's behind Frozena on the depth chart. Anyone have inside info?
that Hazel is gone next year. Again our fav. walk-on was in the game b/4 Hazel.
Hard to see him back at MU next year.
Let the speculations begin...
you have to think, he has told Buzz he is not coming back next year.
Has not played in last seven games and 10 of last 12. He is good as gone. Remember in beginning of year, he was getting time.
My guess?
He's getting the Ryan Amoroso treatment.
From another thread - "I thought the exact same thing. The kid is from Queens, for God's sake, and Buzz refuses to give him 10 seconds of playing time in a 30-point blowout in NYC????" e-compt
and
"I'm starting to wonder if Hazel is getting the Ryan Amoroso treatment, i.e. no playing time if you're transferring." Pakuni
It might explain why it seems like we are recruiting a lot of big men.
Hazel never showed me anything in the games he did play.
If he leaves, it wouldnt be the worst thing.
Would this mean 1 extra scholarship open for 2010?
He was getting meaningful minutes and playing ok I thought. Butler's emergence lessened the need for him, but still clearly there is more to it. I can't imagine he told Buzz he wasn't staying back when he was getting minutes before being exiled to the bench-that would serve no purpose for him.
Strange deal. Don't think it'd be a huge loss if/when he leaves, but I had hoped the losing 1 or 2 guys each year would come to an end.
If Hazel informed Buzz that he was transferring, yet Hazel still practices with the team does that justify him not playing in a game from that point on? If he's on the team and practicing, then I think he should get in for a minute or two. He's still a part of this years team.
I would transfer if I was him too.
I'd rather PLAY at a mid-major/D2 or 3 school rather than pine ride for 4 years.
If we got Riley or Wilson, or even this kid Darius Smith, no question an upgrade.
I believe it would mean an extra next year if we want to fill it.
I didn't mind Hazel. He was a hustle player and did his part, though his role in the beginning of the year was the largest role he was going to ever get.
But I don't see how there is any doubt he's leaving now. When Frozena plays almost four minutes and you don't get in, you're done.
except that Riley committed to Suckacuse, and Wilson committed to Oregon.

Hazel is gone next year.
I have
no doubt. And I don't even have any insider information.
I'm curious as to the reason, but I'd guess we'll find out in due time.
Bad wording on my part, used if we "got", not "get". When Hazel goes, and no Smith, bank the scholy.
Distilling the last half of the season into 3 Hazel-related points
- Buzz is still recruiting for next year
- Hazel is not playing in blowouts near his hometown
- A walk-on sees the court before he does
Who knows what all happened to lead up to this situation, and for the record, I'm happy the details haven't made it outside the program, be they benign or damaging, but it's pretty clear what's coming down the pike once the season is over.
when was the last game hazel played in?

Oddly enough, St. Johns...on valentines day.

wow i thought he didnt play since like a late december game but i guess not
thanks :o
Hazel has to be done at MU. Why wouldn't he crack the roto the past few games if he wasn't in the future plans?
I still want another guard, but the play of Mo and Cubi has lessened some of my dread for next year. Thanks, Pat, and good luck.
I also want another guard next year. The DJ injury and the Diener injury is proof enough that you can never have enough guards. We will only have 4 next year with 2 being undersized. I don't view Butler as a 2 as I don't think he can defend other 2s.
you mean our 6'6" 1 star center recruit, a Tom crean special wont be back? Ahh that is a good thing should have never signed him in the first palce, BUzz eliminating yet another Crean mistake = good for MU
I really like Pat and its too bad he couldn't play in front of his hometown crowd (queens is less than 10 miles from manhattan) as he always generally played incredibly hard when he did get in........let not continue to speculate about the poor guy; if anything else buzz will arange him to play for another school in a lesser conference who would be HAPPY to have him, coaches don't just let a guy hang out in the wind unless they've really f'ed up
His part of Queens is 10 minutes from MSG on the subway. I'm surprised he's even with the team at this point.
He sucks thats whats up with him
Wonder if he'll be Amorosized and banished from the Tourney?
He played some decent minutes in the first half of the year...and the team called him the best finisher at the hoop. Who knows what happened, but when the walk-on gets in before a scholie player.....there must be something going on.
Thought there was something going on when he didn't play vs. Seton Hall and Frozena did. Posted something to that effect and some tool questioned it. Make way for a new Buzz recruit.

Wow, classy.
Heaven forbid anybody on this forum question someone's opinion...
Some people have been saying the obvious for over a year now...that Hazel isn't a Big East caliber player. Of course you were attacked if you dare say such a thing.
No offense to Frozena whatsoever, but it's never a good sign when he's getting a couple minutes at the end of a blowout game and you're on the bench the entire time.
Hazel is gone next year
Hey, Navy, just to elaborate, it was the snarky way this knob questioned it. Satisfied now?

It's great to see you are taking out your hatred of Crean on a college kid. Did he piss on your Wheaties as well?
The kid hasn't done anything to embarrass MU publicly but you choose to rail on him. I suppose you wouldn't take the best offer out there?
I certainly don't know what is going on behind the scenes but I definitely think fans should treat the kid with an open mind.
I certainly hope that you don't have children and treat them the same way. It would be bad enough if you taught them how to spell!
I suppose you can tell me how you you run your company and treat your employees so well.
I can definitely see you learned a lot in your years at MU.
I was looking at the roster pictures.
The only MU player to be in his jersey, and NOT a dress shirt, is PATRICK HAZEL.
What does it all mean??
Oh, and does Chris Otule have a lazy eye? I remember something about his vision not being the best--is that why?

He doesn't have a lazy eye, he has ptosis. It's a condition where the eyelid muscles aren't strong enough to hold the upper eye lid open.
get that eyelid to the weight room!

To be fair, I did not see an ounce of criticism directed at Hazel in that comment. Plenty directed at Crean for recruiting him, but nothing but a statement about what he actually was coming out of HS. A far crty from 'railing on him.'
Not to state the obvious ... but are we sure he wasn't hurt or something?

Yes, we are sure
Warrior, I don't mean to waste your time, so feel free to ignore the following question: How? I used the search function, but it didn't yield anything to my liking.

He won't be back next year. Better see if you can return your Hazel jersey to the spirit shop or whatever they call it these days
Didn't play in 10 of the last 12 games and was suited up for every single one. 1) If he was hurt and Williams did not intend on playing him he would have had him in street clothes. 2) Williams has said time and time again that he would not play guys who are not ready (like Otule). 3) To anyone who actually follows MU basketball and posts on these boards, it's known that Hazel has been in his doghouse all season. 4) He has never been on any injury reports that I've seen
Warrior: TY for the response. In regards to him "being in the doghouse" ... are you referring to something to Buzz has actually said? You're argument makes sense, but I was wondering whether Buzz has actually said something along those lines.
There were reports earlier in the year from various sources that Hazel was struggling with both the offensive and defensive rotations. Things along the lines of Buzz having to stop practice more for PH than the rest of the team combined. I am too lazy to search, but if you are really ambitious, the truth is out there.
Tower: TY for the response. Searching/Googling "Hazel AND doghouse" wasn't going anywhere for me.
Try Hazel and sh ithouse, then.

Is this an Abbey Road "Paul is out of step" Album cover reference (Paul is dead, Paul is dead?)
I dunno what he's going to decide, but consider this: he's the only remaining recruit from Crean's LAST true recruiting class of 2007-08.
The others? Mbakwe, Christopherson and Saunders.
I wouldn't be surprised if he follows his recruiting classmates in true fashion.
It's difficult to avoid all this sepcualtion on these kids, but some part of me hates it becuase if I put myself in their shoes (which would be way too big for me), I'd feel pretty bad reding, seeing, hearing all this stuff. From the likes of it, Hazel is a good kid.
I'm letting the powers that be decide what's happening here, but that's it. If some kid's future is at stake, I don't want to be part of the speculation machine.
GO Marquette!

The regular season was pretty much over by 2/24. Hazel was MIA long before that.

Yeah no kidding. Not only did I not attack Hazel i never would. As far as i know he has conducted himself in nothing but an exemplary manner. Even though i was never a Crean fan it seemed he did a pretty decent job of making sure he recruited good kids and that they represented the University in a good manner. I have every reason to beleive that Buzz will do this as well, the University will demand it and I have seen nothing from Buzz to indicate he would look for or ecxept anything less.
Again I am sure Hazel is agreat kid and i could never blame him for accepting a scholarship to atop BE school like Marquette. i do blame Crean for signing a 6'6 1 star center. My guess he does not have much of an opportunity for playin time going forward.
eliminating yet another Crean mistake
I just don't think any body likes to be referred to as a mistake.
This happens in the business world all the time. A new regime comes in and filters out all the old regime's staff. I hate to see it happen to college students, but that is the real world.

With rare exception, the "real world" doesn't have a bunch of people commenting in a public forum about their job performance and potential for being replaced.

That's why I hate to see it happen to college athletes! The coaches make the big bucks and they should expect to live under the microscope!

+1 again. The kids get recruited and signed to the program by the guys who get paid. They get paid to do their job well. Recruit the right kids, or develop the kids you have recruited or are on your team. We don't know what goes on at the practices, but unless the kid is slacking off, not trying, is a problem and/or cancel to the rest of the team, then they deserve a fair shake.
don't we need a scholy anyways?? someone's gotta go, hazel would make sense.
