Title: Quite Frankly...Our resume isn't that great
Post by: YoungMUFan4 on March 10, 2009, 09:56:01 PM
3-7 vs. RPI top 50
-Georgetown has more top 50 wins than we do.
No Signature Win/Road win
-best wins are Villanova (rpi 14), West Virginia (rpi 26),  and Wisconsin (rpi 38),
-RPI is 30 and SOS is 48
-Last 10/Last 12 record is poor
-currently 4-6 in the last 10 and 6-6 in the last 12
-Loss to USF (RPI 181)

Only good thing is that we are 7-0 vs. RPI 51-100

Compared to Last Year

Last Year  (6 seed...no injuries)

4-8 vs. RPI top 50

Signature Win/Road win:
-@Wis (RPI 11), ND (RPI 26), ND (neutral Court) (RPI 26), Pitt (RPI 15),

RPI 20...SOS 21

8-4 last 12
7-3 last 10

No bad losses

Well, lets just have MU turn down the NCAA tourney and instead go to the NIT where we rightly belong.

Sorry for bringing up an actual basketball related topic

Sorry, but what kind of reaction did you expect on an MU message board? And, since you brought up these stats, do you think MU should go to the NCAA tourney or not? What seed would you give them?

If we were only a six last year, I really struggle to see how we are anything better than a seven this year.  Maybe an eight or nine depending on tomorrow.

Hard to determine what are resume is when your looking at it in a vacuum.  How do we compare to other teams?

Also how does our conference record this year compare to last year?  How does our conference position compare to last?  How does the Big East this year, compare to last year?

Quite frankly...Our resume isn't that bad

We lose to three of the projected #1 seeds in our last four, and perhaps the hottest team in SU...play all competitively with our star PG out...and frankly, we gave the SU game away.  Objectively, all tough match-ups for us.  Yes, we are down...but:

No matter our seed, let's look at the rest of the top seeds.  Memphis, UNC, Duke, MSU, LSU, Kansas, any Pac 10 team, OKL, etc.  I think we can take any of them except UNC or OK.  And, we can give OK a run.  Let's not forget our quickness can give teams fits.  It is when opponents are quick and tall we have problems.

The loss of DJ is a tough one for us because of the freak talent...but if Mo and MU can get a little confidence back against SJU...and then we have the best possible high BE seed match-up in Nova, maybe we can go on a roll.  I don't care what seed we are in the NCAA's, as, except for the BE, it is a weak year.  We can make a run.  We just need to put it together in the BET.  I smell a run coming.

If we get to the BigE championship game I think we have a shot at a 6 or even a 5.  That would move us to 5-7 vs RPI/50 (if it plays out SJU, Villa, 'Ville).  Better than last year's.

Last year we were 11-7 in conference play.

I feel that with there recent slide, if they lose tomorrow they will get an 8, and if they get an 8 they would face a possible second round match up with UNC or OKLA!!!!  Yikes!!!!  (remember you can't play a conference team in the first or second round)

If we beat Nova and Louisville and make the BE Championship game we will probably be a 4 seed.  That would be 26-9 with 2 marquee wins and proof that we can win without DJ.  I also think the committee would have to give us the benefit of the doubt that we needed a few games to make the adjustment with DJ going against 3 potential number 1 seeds.

We all wish for that, but without DJ they will not beat NOVA, and maybe not St. Johns.  Acker is just that bad!!!!

At least we're not GTown or ND.  There were some predicting that type of season for MU this year.

Seriously, regardless of resume or seeding, we finished 5th in the BEast and I count this season as a success.

I am definitely proud of our team.  We will always wonder what could have been with DJ but I will always remember this group of seniors fondly.

Hopefully, we still have some fight in us.

Let's go Warriors!

We look a little better using the realtimerpi.com numbers:

They have Georgetown in the top 50 rpi, which makes us 5-7 vs. RPI top 50

Going into this season, if someone would have told me that two wins against Georgetown and a win AT ND would amount to zero signature wins I wouldn't have believed it. Crazy how things can change.

what's going to really sting is if DePaul, St. John's and Notre Dame are all still playing Thursday and we're not. Let's turn it around today. FIRE UP!

Thanks for the positive vibe but I was replying to T-bone and his thoughts of us getting only a 5 or 6 seed IF we made it to the Championship game.

And who is to say with 100% confidence that we can't beat NOVA.   Maybe Reynolds gets into foul trouble or gets hurt or McNeal gets hot or any number of other possibilities.  DePaul with 0 wins in conference beat a middle of the pack Cincy team yesterday.  ANYTHING can happen including us losing today, thats why this time of year is so great (except when we lose).  ITS MARCH MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still would say the win @ Notre Dame is a good win.... anyone with a brain knows it is tough to win in the Joyce Center.

and the positive is we have a lot of wins against bubble teams... Wisconsin, Providence, Cinci, Nova, ND,

And Northern Iowa winning the MVC helps us out as well.
